Sqoon -- the next sleeper rarity

I just thought I'd make a post about that lesser-known title Sqoon. I personally think this game should be worth A LOT more than it typically sells for. I can see this being the next Chubby Cherub, where it starts to fetch upwards of $500, especially if it's in good condition.

So who still needs this one CIB? What do you think it's worth these days?

  • It's one hell of a hard box to find...I'm glad I got that CIB copy from you image And it's in such nice shape, I won't need an upgrade image
  • I'm Glad I'm Only Going For Carts
  • You should sell it back to me image There's someone I know that's willing to pay a serious amount of cash for it.
  • Well, that would depend how good the offer was. I don't usually part with stuff from my collection, but nothing is ever set in stone...

Yeah, I agree, its a tough one. Never seen a sealed one (that wasn't a reseal) on ebay in five years of looking.
  • I've seen more CC boxes lately than I've seen of Sqoon for sure!
  • LOL, no doubt -- if I still needed that box, I'd be sending you a PM right now. That's like someone being willing to part with their Chubby Cherub.
  • I've never been able to find the cart of this game in the wild, let alone boxes or books image
  • Hmmm, I did not realize sqoon had gotten so hard to find. Have at least a double of it. Might have to throw one of my doubles up on ebay soon.

Note to Dain: next time tell everyone you feel it should be worth way more AFTER you buy it image
  • That's what he did image

There's other ones too. IMO there are several titles where if the demand went up just a little bit the price would skyrocket.

I don't search CIBs that much, so maybe I'm uninformed but in terms of early games like sqoon/chubby cherub where loose carts are easy but CIBs are hard I would think another two excellent candidates beyond sqoon would be lode runner and spelunker.

    Anyone seen those titles lately?
  • Hey bronty, did you ever sell the sealed double of sqoon you had? I remember you had it and I think hounder was supposed to buy it or something. Would be interesting to see what that could pull on the open market.

Still have it. Hounder was always expressing interest in everything, but rarely followed through. I'm kind of glad he didn't buy it anyway. Sqoon has such cool art on the box cover - got to be the same artist as stinger. Not to mention that ever finding any more would be extremely difficult.
  • Definitely cool artwork. Pretty cool sealed title to have too. Would love to get one of those sealed.

I am not saying sqoon is common at all boxed. It is definitely one of the more rare titles and difficult to find in nice shape, but it isn't THAT rare. Nowhere near CC or anything of that nature. I would put it with something like Muscle. Pretty rare to find in nice shape, but you can pick it up with a little effort. Probably a little lower than it should be.
  • Bronty, I wouldn't mind that sealed dupe image Wouldn't mind opening it either...
  • well, my frame of reference is sealed stuff of course since that's what I primarily search and for me all of those titles are a bitch. So its gets tough for me to guage which one is more extremely difficult than the rest. CIB one title may be a little easier than the others. Wouldn't surprise me if MUSCLE was a comparable. MUSCLE/CC/SQOON/LODE - they are all in the same league I think. Sure I guess CC is the toughest but the others are no picnic either.

I just threw up a little at the thought image
  • HAHAHAHA!!! You know I'd open it. I'd pay huge just for the opportunity to open it!

And the video will hit YouTube...speaking of which... *runs to YouTube*
  • Definitely no picnic. One of the titles that goes a little under the radar. A year or so ago, it was really under the radar.

Dain made a comment that rings very true. This site has really put certain titles and rarities into the spotlight. There are so few titles "under the radar" now because of this site. People now know what exactly to look for and scour all the lots for. It seems like little, if anything, goes unnoticed these days.

You sure Vintagevgs didn't sell one? I thought he sold one.
  • not with the line, IIRC.
  • It seems like the more a game is talked about, the more valuable it becomes, ESPECIALLY if talked about on NintendoAGE. Wizard just got a CIB Gun+Nac for $32 yesterday, but it wasn't talked about. 1 month ago a topic was brought up about a Gun+Nac listing and it pulled what $100 or so?

I'm glad I already have my CIB copy of Sqoon. There are still a few other "sleeper rares" that I need, I wouldn't dare talk about them until AFTER I own them.
  • Same thing Nick. I save those discussions for AIM or MSN, at least until I own them image
  • Sqoon is a sleeper for sure. I am VERY curious to see what the next one on the open market brings. I wouldn't sell mine period but I wouldn't be shocked at all if someone bid 300-350 for one in the next year.

his parents didn't hug him enough image
  • I was beat out on that Gun Nac, it was a poor listing.
  • Opening factory sealed NES games sems like a sure fire way to go broke in my opinoin.Unless you get them for cheap as hell but still you are losing money. But if it makes you happy then go for it,but tape all the openings I love it,but it hurts to watch it.
