Problem with Atari 2600 Joysticks

Both my joysticks work but won't move in the up direction. I even got a new one, which is not an official one, and it also does the same.

I think it could be from the system rather than from my joysticks as I have opened them and there seems to be no problem. None of the pins look bent in the controller socket. So I don't know how to fix this.  

What should I do?

    Test them on another atari. This will verify if it is a pin problem in you system or a bunch of bad controllers. I am willing to bet a broken connection in the system if it is the same thing happening to 3 controller
