its my fav game out right now for the wii, its alot funner with another person, especially if they suck, i deff underestimated this one, and starwarsarcade, that sux that you beat it in the first day, now you got nothing to look fowered to
He gets plenty to look forward to. There are a bunch of secrets, and some of those star coins are ridiculously hard to get!
This is easily the best Mario game since Mario 3. I may even say it's the best Mario game ever. So incredible. I haven't had this much fun playing a platformer in a long, long time. Of course, I've been playing two player with my girlfriend. Having to coordinate all of our jumps makes for some really unexpected fun. I laughed uncontrollably a few times. That doesn't happen often.

Mario Galaxy is still #1 for me but this game is a close 2nd. I have a lot to look fwd to actually, I need to get all the coins and secrets in each level and thats going to take me a while. Plus the real fun will be multiplayer mode and now that I have been through the game I can jump around the levels as I please.
I really dont get to play games much anymore, every time I try I have a 2 year old (and now a dog too) jumping all over me competing for attention. It makes trying to play through a game more work than fun.
I am kind of shocked over the comments. I thought it was too much like the DS and debated on selling it already. But I have only played it with 4 players which is a beast. Maybe 1 or 2 player will be better.
I was kinda hoping it would be significantly different than the DS, apart from the multiplayer features. Oh well. I haven't played it yet, but this news takes me down a notch. I'm sure it will still be fun... but I'm glad I preordered through Amazon to get the $10 rebate instead of rushing out to buy it.
So can anyone vouch for this being significantly more difficult than the DS version? I thought the DS version was way too easy, to the point of not really being enjoyable.
If this one is more on par with SMB3 difficulty (or even SMW), I think I'll pick it up.

Taken word for word from the gamestop review:
"You'll need to dig deep and mine whatever experience you have with previous Mario offerings because New Super Mario Bros. Wii is by far the most challenging game in the series for many years (certainly more so than New Super Mario Bros. on the DS or Super Mario Galaxy)."
So far, I'm only through World 2, but it's definitely a good difficulty. Too difficult for the average girlfriend to beat alone, but not too difficult to make you break controllers either.
OK, cool. It wouldn't take much for a game to be harder than the DS New SMB...that game was a freaking joke. Galaxy wows you with enough novelty that the light level of difficulty can be forgiven (though 5 or 6 of the stars can be REALLY tough to get).
Well, that's good to hear. I also thought the DS version was way too easy. It was fun enough to play through the first time, but I ended up selling it eventually after I got all of the large coins because I didn't feel like playing it again.
I bought it for myself for Christmas yesterday. So I still have 6 weeks before I can play!
Question - Does it support online multiplayer, or just local?
No online multiplayer, and if you visit the gamefaqs forum, you'll see every other thread complaining about this. Kind of confuses me though, because when has Mario ever been online? You have to crawl before you can walk, and I'll take local only over no multiplayer anyday.
The game is more challenging than New SMB on DS by a long shot. SMB3 is not a good game to compare it to in terms of difficulty, at least for me, because that game is simple. Maybe I played it too much as a kid... but I can fly through it. I would say its on par with SMW and maybe a bit harder in places.
The game uses the wii remote sideways or with the nunchuck. You have to use the wii remote because there are some controls in the game that require the motion sensors. It works really well though and doesnt feel out of place at all.
For those who think the game is just like New SMB I say you couldn't be more wrong. I think its a perfect mix of SM3 and SMW and New SMB DS. I even saw a lot of throwbacks to the original SMB. I dont know, for me it is an instant classic. My only complaint so far is that Yoshi was hyped up quite a bit and he only appeared in a few levels. I did skip quite a few levels while beating the game though so I really hope I find more because Yoshi is awesome. The helicopter suit was by far my favorite power up though, so much fun...
Yea this game is amazing, I just got to world 3 and am having fun with the Penguin suit, if you try to get all the star coins in every level, this game is super challenging!
^^^ SMW isn't really all that hard, either, though the mechanics are more complex than the earlier games.
I agree, none of the Marios are really hard to me though, except the later levels in SMB2J and it doesn't really count because that was just poor level design.

It's been awhile since I played SMB2J (on All-Stars), but aren't levels 8 and 9 harder than the A-D stuff? I could have swore that some of those windy levels at the end with the pathetically small platforms and large amount of flying enemies were a HUGE pain in the ass..

SMW's definitely challenging though, if you're not trying to speed run that is. The worst part about the Mario games is the bosses, because to me they've NEVER been hard (with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 bosses in Yoshi's Island).
Beat it at about 8:30 tonight. Played about 6 hours yesterday and 3 or 4 more today with my girlfriend the whole way. Time to go back through and clean up.
Through World 5 now, played 3 player co-op most of yesterday evening. Game is definitely easier with 3 players, but it's a lot more fun too! I'm sure all of the star coins are accessible with one player, but there were a few where we just jumped off each others heads rather then try complex wall kicks or using helicopter mushrooms.

Do they have to be somewhat good? The most I've played was 2 player, and my friend made it actually harder to get through the level. I wonder what 4 players is like...
There's a built-in "cheap" trick with the game that makes multiplayer easier than it should be. At any time your partner is about to die, they can press the "A" button to instantly become a bubble. Then they can shake the remote to catch up to you and they get freed without any damage.
Everyone can do this trick as often as they would like. About to fall in a pit? Bubble. About to get hit by a fireball? Bubble. Etc... Only catch is that if every player bubbles at the same time, everyone has to restart.
Also comes in handy when someone is climbing vertically too fast and you are about to fall off the screen. Bubble and fly up to the platform that the leader is on.
I finally picked this up yesterday, loving it so far. I just beat world 2 and saved at the start of 3. I am going to try to only play 1 level a day if I can so it lasts a little longer. I have already hit a couple levels that I thought were pretty tough. I love the Koopa kids being back!

Found a warp from World 1 to 5 and one from 5 to 8. Should be easy to fly through the game with those.
D'oh!
Fly thought a very limited part of the game, that is.
Warp zones are so lame.
