Rom sites?

Back in the day, ROM sites were all over, then many went into the tank.

Any good one still up?  I have nearly all the NES roms but only a few SNES and Genesis.

BTW: if its illegal, then I'm just kidding image

  • I think it is illegal, unless you own the cartridges of the games you have the ROM for.  Then it's just a back-up to your cartridge.
  • try www.rom-world.com, you'll probably find everything you need there!

And technically the backup is only legal if you created it yourself (17 USC Section 117). Many people like to ignore that little bit image There is likely no way to prove you didn't make the backup, but unless you have something like a CopyNES no way to show you did. Strictly speaking if you sell the cart you made the backup from, that backup must be erased.

So unless its public domain or other free license:
    • Every rom you download is illegal.

    • Every repro is illegal, including hacks and translations. Just because it wasn't or isn't now available for sale does not make it legal.

    • Abandonware does not exist, someone somewhere owns the copyright whether they know it or not.
  • lol... guess it like downloading music....
