What Do You Do?

Jumpman's thread about college/school gave me this idea.  If your not in school, what do you do for a living?  I'm a carpenter/jack of all trades.  I work for a business my dad started about 20 years ago.  All our work comes from insurance companies.  So if your house or business catches fire, floods, gets wind damage, or is trashed by vandals, we fix it.  I can do pretty much anything, drywall, roofing, siding, painting, plumbing, electical, kitchens, bathrooms, any type of flooring, the list goes on.  I could literally build a house from the ground up.   I'll be 28 on Monday, and hope to start flipping houses in the next year or 2.

So what does everyone else do.

Like your idea! Gives everyone a chance to know people better!

I'm 26 and opening a Jimmy John's franchise in a suburb of Chicago. The store should be opened the second week of October and I will definitely post some pics of the opening!! All NA members who visit receive a free sub, chips and drink on the house!! Only took me a year and half to open because of the damned city we moved into to!!

That's what I do. And root for my Bears and Cubbies!! Haha.

    Be well -

  • I'm 20 and a college student. I actually just picked up my associates degree yesterday from the school. Now I'm working on the double bachelor's. I'll have that in no time. Then master's, doctoral, etc. until I get bored. I am studying to become a teacher.

I work a part time job for a company called Synergixx. It's boring office type work but it's great money for a 20 year old kid with no experience. Plus I can surf the internet all day and pretend to do work (just kidding, i actually do work). Synergixx is a call center. We take calls for other companies that run infomercials on TV, radio, newspaper, and other forms of media.

Sounds interesting. I have never even heard of Jimmy John's before. I just looked up the Wikipedia article. I guess that's a franchise that we just never got here in New Jersey. So you're going to own the store when it's opened? Cool!
  • MLN- That's awesome, I worked for a sub shop here in Huntsville, AL for 8 years!!

Despite going to school for two years for accounting, I now am the Kitchen Manager at Applebee's in Athens, AL. Hungry?? Any NA members get a three course meal on me! Still hungry??, bring some NES games for trade!!
  • Hey guys!

I am unemployed for the moment image Before I startin to studying I have worked 5 years as a car mechanik in a Jaguar Hose - so if Your Jag needs to be fixed bring it to me (for all NA members I'll fix it for free) hehe.

  • I am a bum with no job, and won't give any of you a damn thing for free image

I have a job interview next week for USPS again, and have at least a 20% chance of getting it. 5 people are interviewing for the one job, fingers crossed.

  • MLN - Very cool on the Jimmy Johns franchise. About 6 years ago, I looked very seriously into starting one here in Grand Rapids. There were none in this area at all and the subs are the best of any sub shop. I never pulled the trigger on the deal and now there are 10+ Jimmy Johns in this areaimage

Anyways, my title is Operations Manager. I run all the production in the shop I work at. We have 130 employees across three shifts right now. We sell drawer slides to companies like Herman Miller, Steelcase and HON to be used in their filing cabinets. We also sell slides to Snap-On for use in their tool boxes and to GE for use in some of their refridgerators. I have been here for 12 years now and love it. Oh, I am 30.
  • I'm 27 and I work for the Pensacola News Journal, a newspaper here in Pensacola, Florida. I design all the ads that go in it (all the local ones anyway. Big companies like Alltel, etc, send their own from Ad Agencies). Right now the newspaper business is losing money as a whole because of the internet age, so I'll probably be without a job in the next few years. I graduated college three years ago. Oh how I miss it.
  • im 26 and me and my twin brother started our own roofing business in june of 2006, after roofing since we were 17... things couldent be going better....

  • Hello, my name is Ross, and I'm an alcoholic. Oh wait, wrong intro. I work for a company called The Twelve Inc. We do foster care and group homes for children of all ages. I work in one of the group homes as a Youth Care Worker for right now. I may end up being the House Manager here soon. Mainly we just deal with kids that are messed up. Dumb Asses as I like to call them.
  • I graduated college with an accounting degree and a minor in personal computer applications. I was already working at a bank while in college and the bank liked me enough to design a management trainee program around me. I was doing home loans, business loans, and consumer loans right outta college and then became a branch manager about a year later. I was recruited over to the banks business team about 6 years ago and so in all I have been there almost 10 years now even though the bank has been bought and changed names 3 times, didn't mean much for me but collect big bucks on my stock options and get new business cards.

Currently I am a Senior Business Relationship Manger, VP at the 4th largest bank in the country. I can approve a $250,000 loan on just my signature now. Not Bad! Who wants to buy that SNES cart on eBay? Alot to give up but I get headhunters calls from 3 different banks a week because I am half the age of almost everyone that does what I do) and I might just have received an offer I can't refuse... great opportunity to open up a new bank and become a business team leader (so like my boss now) with substantial raise and signing bonus. Will be interesting couple of months in my life. Good thing NoFriendo is gone he probably wouldn't like reading that last part!!

NGD, yeah most of the stuff my wife does she cannot tell me about or "she would have to kill me" LOL! Savannah is a very tough town in certain areas. Where I lived I heard gunshots at least once a week, someone tried to break into our apartment, had my car and several bikes stolen... Aside from all that it's really a great art/college/tourist town! Here is a photo of me taken a block away from my old apartment:

That sign is awesome, especially with the redrum shirt on, lol. We walked on the waterfront late one night and the locals storeowners yelled at us and made us call a taxi to get back to the motel. I will never be back in that town.

ex-Game Shopowner ("Head Games," Pottstown PA) of 4 years

currently working my way up from entry-level at Cash Converters, an upscale pawn with locations in VA, PA and overseas in AUS and the UK. This week I start training in buys, they're putting me on the fast track since I have retail ownership experience, in hopes of awarding a franchise to me in a few months.

In the meantime, I get first dibs on all the classic games that come through image

Also dabbling in real estate, and like many others, an online VG reseller.

In what little free time I have, I relax with my wife Marie, and moderate here and at NESForums.com.

  • I know I've been telling everyone that I'm a Network Administrator... but I have to come clean... I'm a male stripper. The money is good, but it does get awkward when guys call me up to dance... Not that there's anything wrong with that!

But the story I give people when they ask is, network admin for the last 5 years since I was 19. I manage 3 offices of about 150 people. Things usually run really well because I'm awesome, so I surf NA and eBay all day.
  • dangevin- We have a Cash Converters here in Asheville, NC also.
  • I'm 28 with a BS in Computer Science from Iowa State. Don't worry, I'm not actually originally from Iowa, I was born and raised a Michigander.

Now I work out of my home (while my wife goes to grad school) as a Function Test Team Lead for a certain large and colorful global computer company.

It's almost my lunch break, and there's on about 10 minutes away.
  • I work for a large Pharmaceutical company. The plant I work in is a little one in Omaha Nebraska where we make vaccines for animals.

I work in the Quality Assurance group, the only Quality guy on the 2nd shift.

Not very exciting but it pays pretty good and it's cushy.
