Item Not Recieved Dispute on Ebay

So, about a month ago, I sold some PS2 Network Adapters on Ebay.
I packed and shipped them out to their destination the day after the funds were cleared into my account, and I made sure I got a Delivery Confirmation number with the package. I sent the DC number to the buyer the say I sent the package out.

I just looked at the tracking website, and here's the last entry on the page:
2009/10/1903:5390640,USAItem has been received at the delivery office in the destination country
So, the package arrived at the post office in the person's hometown over a month ago, it looks like they just haven't picked it up yet.

So, willl I win this dispute due to the fact that I have a DC number? I have literally zero money right now, and the only way I'd be able to pay back the $300 at this point would be to go to the bank and take out a loan.

Anyone that knows anything about this, please help.

  • People seem to be getting screwed over on Network adaptors

That's a toughie and I absolutely HATE when the DC says crap like that, a receipt could help you out here
  • People file claims on us all the time. They just don't seem to understand how to contact the seller, and just skip right to filing a claim. As long as you have DC, the receipts, and shipped it to the confirmed address, you shouldn't have any problems.

I would also contact the buyer, informing them of the DC information, telling them they need to contact their local postal office, as they probably need to sign for the package, also post this in the PayPal claim.
  • Get the phone # for the local PO and inquire about the parcel. They'll be able to tell you if it's indeed waiting to be picked up, and you can proceed from there. But you will absolutely need to resolve the issue with the local PO because as it is, Paypal will find in the buyer's favor and freeze your account if they can't recover all the money.
  • Thanks for the quick replies dudes, it sounds like it's a good thing that I kept the reciept for this one!

I'll call the PO and see what I can find out... I'll post back.
  • Please do, I'd be interested to know how this turns out.
  • Not sure how it works from Canada to the USA but when shipping USPS from the US to Canada only express has the tracking all the way to the persons house every time. Some people use the customs form for tracking and most times it isn't good enough.

  • Okay, so I responded to the buyer in the Ebay claim, letting him know that delivery tracking says it's at his post office. Then I asked him if he had gone to the post office to try to pick up the package.

His response was "We have ask the mailman and he said that there are no packages left in their office for us. Kindly call canada post so we can locate where the adapters are."

So, I went to the post office with the tracking number, and asked the worker to confirm that the package was waiting to be picked up. She told me that "she couldn't check that" and said I should call the post office that the package was delivered to. (Is this BS, Canadians? I'd think that they could track a package at a post office.) She seemed like she didn't know what she was doing, so it's possible she was wrong.

So, I responded to his response, letting him know that Canada Post said that it was most likely at his post office. I asked him to visit both of the post offices in his city tomorrow to see if he can find the package.

I'm kind of frustrated that he filed an Ebay Dispute before he even checked the post office... but I don't care as long as I'm not out $300 that I don't have.

Anyone have any advice for me? I'm on the verge of doom here, and don't know what to do.
  • Ugh, so the IDIOTS that filed this dispute have escalated it to a claim.

The real stupid part about it is, the package is sitting at their post office, they are just too lazy to pick it up! (And have expressed this fact in their communication with me) Their exact words were "I ask mailman if the package is at the PO. He said it was not so we did not go to the Post Office to look for it.". All they have done is ask their mailman where the package is, and the mailman said he didn't know, so they escalated the claim.

What should I do now that I'm actually in a claim? Should I scan the reciepts and add them to the 'files' part of the claim?

Also, will Paypal take into account that they haven't made an attempt to pick up the package at the Post Office yet? The tracking number for the package is in PayPal's system, so PayPal will know that the package is at the buyer's PO office.
  • people fuckin suck - sorry dude, wish i had the answer.
  • This link might not work http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/track/business/findByTrackNumber?execution=e1s1

but it's a DC number for a package I recently sent to the USA. Notice it tracks all the way to the border and then suddenly shows it showed up at the destination. Does you number look like this CX 282 926 235 CA. That's mine. Type that into the www.canadapost.ca website under business. It seems our DC is identical except the last step. My guy obviously went to the PO to get the package. He hasn't left me feedback yet though. Your guy seems to be a lazy POS.

Feel free to use my DC for comparison purposes in your claim. It's clear that the package is at his PO and needs to be picked up. Pick up is normal for international packages.

Yeah, I would send everything you have to PayPal, just to show that you are clearly not trying to pull any shenanigans and that the buyer is a worthless POS. I would even go as far as to call the buyer directly at this point, as it seems they have a problem communcating via e-mail.

And yes, PayPal should take that into account. Having to sign for an international package is pretty standard. If the customer hasn't done anything more then ask their mailman, it's clear they have no idea what is going on, or they are trying to pull something funny.

  • I think the timeframe for a Paypal claim to play out is long enough that the PO will return to sender before he gets his money back, but that might be what he's banking on -- win the claim, then go get the item if his local PO holds things indefinitely.

You can always call Paypal and appeal afterwards if that is what he pulls, only so long as the DC gets updated and shows exactly what he did (that he picked up after the claim was ended in his favor).
  • where does this clown live?
  • Better yet, what's this clown's ebay username? I'm putting his ass on my blocked bidder list IMMEDIATELY if he's this big of an idiot.
  • They live in Montebello, California. Their ebay username is mcen0615. The strange thing is, they have 100% feedback and tons of transactions, so I don't know why they are being such idiots with me.

Anyways, I uploaded digital images of my Carbon Copy of the shipping label and of my payment reciept for the shipping onto the Paypal claim page. I got the address right on the shipping label, so I think I'm in pretty good shape. Apparently the buyer has to choose to continue the claim before the 20th, so now I'm just waiting for them to either go to the post office and get it, or for them to officially file the claim.

I never dreamed that the very first item I sold on Ebay would become such a headache.
  • First item eh... Ah huh, I bet they know that! Adam, you are getting scammed. Sorry to say it, but you're international, first time seller, high dollar item. All add up to SCAM. So sorry dude. I hope you come out on top here.
  • theres 171 registered members from California maybe if you were to post in the everything else section looking for someone close to Montebello, California you could have them drop them off where the package is with all the proof that you have that its sitting there. might get more exposure in everything else section
  • I don't think they are trying to scam me... It's possible, but I think that these people are just lazy and stupid. Ryan, I used the tracking number you showed me as proof that the package still needs to be picked up. Thanks, dude.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ian, but I've already submitted everything I have to Paypal, and I've stated my case to them. Paypal says that the ball is in the buyer's court now, and that they have 2 more days to choose to continue the claim until the case closes and I get my money back. I've got my fingers crossed that they won't do it in time. Either way, I think I'm about as covered as I can be at this point.
  • Yep definitely don't say anything else, in fact if they hadn't escalated, I would not have even uploaded what you did. Everything you do sends a reminder to them that the case is still open and that's another chance for them to escalate and cause real problem.

Here's to hoping it just goes away.
  • I think they already had escalated to a claim?

Either way, sounds like you're in a pretty good position right now. Lets hope it stays that way image

In response to Tuxedo: See above.

We've been calling it a claim all along but in fact they only filed a dispute, they haven't escalated as far as he said.
  • Actually, Ryan (tuxedo) is right, it was indeed escalated to a claim already. See post #10.

So.. does it send them reminders when I upload stuff if the dispute has already been escalated to a claim? If so, that'd be pretty lame.
  • Montebello? According to research of public records there were 58 registered sex offenders living in 90640 zip code in early 2007.

gotta love google results. maybe you should hire someone in LA to track this guy down and... you know... convince him.
  • I think everytime you "respond" to the claim, the claimant is email notified. I'm not sure if uploading stuff is a response, but I think you said you described the situation in the claim. They'll probably be notified so they can defend your response. If they're as lazy as they seem, hopefully you're alright image
  • Well, as an update, the buyer must have responded, because Paypal is reviewing the case now. I really hope this goes my way.
  • Still being reviewed by Paypal. I thought they were usually quicker with these things.
  • Hah, when PayPal reviews stuff it takes a while. I filed a claim a couple of months ago, and after the seller escalated it, it took them almost a month for them to complete it.
  • Well, at least your money is still your money until then image
