Sticker residue on boxes

I've got my big bottle of the ever awesome Goo Gone for the tough residue on carts and possibly consoles, but I'm cautious on using any type of liquid cleaner for residue on boxes? Any pointers?

  • I think a good starting point would be to try to warm the stickers/residue up with a hair dryer/heat gun and see if that helps.
  • I use Goo Gone on my boxes. Just dont leave it on there for more than a minute or so.
  • Is it sealed or un sealed? For sealed I used goo-gone and the sticker came off perfectly with no negative affects etc. As for unsealed I have no experience.

A minute?? What?? Are you kidding me?? I don't think you want to let any liquid sitting on a box for that long.

Take some toilet paper (or paper towel I guess, I do it in the bathroom, so the TP is already available) and a q-tip. Put a couple of drops on the q-tip (don't soak it, just enough to leave a trail when rubbed against the box) and quickly rub the goo you are trying to remove. RIGHT AWAY rub away any excess liquid. Switch to a dry area, and rub some more. You should start getting some goo at this point. Repeat until your goo is gone.

If your box is older/worn (dull looking, not shiny), there would be more danger of it soaking in faster, so be careful.

  • They are all unsealed buendia, that's why I'm worried about liquid. :-(

The hair-dryer trick sounds interesting. I'll see how effective it is. Goo Gone still makes me nervous, but I guess a q-tip of it couldn't hurt. I'll try a few older boxes and get back to you guys. In the meantime if anyone has more ideas, keep 'em flowing. ;-)
