Game Promo Items

Im talking about display cases, possibly demo carts, store posters, how do you guys get this stuff, do you just ask the employees or something? Cause once I asked and the guy said he cant give them away or sell them.

  • I am not saying I do this or that this is even legal but the dumpster in the back of the store is usually a good place to look for posters, standees and display cases. For certain things like demo carts the Nintendo sales rep is supposed to take them back to Nintendo so unless you are friends with a rep your best bet for those is ebay but some of them can be kind of expensive.
  • I got the majority of my stuff when I worked at a place that sold games. We were always tolf that some things, like demo games and kiosk, had to go back to Nintendo, but that rarely happened. Things were almost always either given to employees or thrown out.

Since I haven't worked there in many years, I've gotten just about everything else off of eBay. I'm working on getting my friend to get his girlfriend to hook me up with stuff, since she's a manager at a game store right now image

  • Man, i wish i could find a game store thats been arround long enough to have old stock and display stuff. Every game store in Connecticut is either a new store, or a store tht threw out all of their old stuff years ago. I cant even find a store that sells playstation or snes games! Again, ebay's the only way, unless you know someone in game retail.

Heh, I have a feeling it can be easily infiltrated...
  • Get a job there.

  • Just going into stores and asking for things like that usually doesn't work...think about it, if you worked at a game store and had some random person come in and go 'Hey, can I have that sign up there?' or 'Do you have any cool promo stuff I could have?'

If you really want to try and get items like that from the place, try becomming friends with one or two of the people working there...I know when I used to run an event for a certain card game I had promo cards and whatnot to give out.  Nothing was more annoying than the kids who were jumping around constantly nagging me about how they wanted the cards.
  • I tell you what also works. During a recent school project I had, I had to collect promo signs and cardboard displays for use in my work. I went into places like Blockbusters told them my situation and asked once they had finished would I be able to have the item.

They agreed, wrote my name on the back, and phoned me when it was available.
You could always try this, they never asked any strange questions and they haven't yet refused.
If your a bit older, you could always say your a teacher.
  • yEAH its a shame a lot of the employees at the game store are jerks and know it all's at least the game stops around here. The one guys so arrogant I dont even go in for fear of slapping him upside his head. the used game stores the employees are very cool and help but they dont get the promo stuff
  • I wish there was a gaming store that still sells the old stuff near where I live, i'd get a job there in a heart beat, just so I could see if they had any rare games or display items.

  • i need to get a job there
  • If you're looking for more recent stuff, I've quite a few (probably around 50-60) promotional cases from GameStop for various GC, PS2, and Xbox games, as well as a pretty thick stack of unused promotional case inserts. I also have a couple other random items from GameStop...some sort of barcode page for trading in systems and DVDs, a couple binders full of random information (including a page dedicated to N-Gage pre-orders in one binder, flyers for a bunch of games from Vivendi Universal/Blizzard/Sierra in the second binder, and a third binder full of what looks to be company confidential sales info...it contains a couple flyers, as well). I also have a huge stack of promo boxes for PC games, many of which have pre-order bonuses still sealed within... PM me if you're interested (lists of specific promo cases included, etc.).

Not entirely a promo item, but obtained the same way: I have 2 factory-sealed 6-packs of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles (Gamecube) strategy guides...
  • I also have a ton of Display Cases (probably around 100-150 or so) for DS, GC, Xbox, PS2, and also a few Wii, If anyone is interested in any just let me know.
  • If you get a job there clear it with the manager and get some business card printed. Basically state on the card I collect old Atari and other OLD  videogames. If anyone comes in with games the stores doesn't buy at the store you tell them you will buy old games and hand em a card. Tell them you also buy NES or SNES or whatever they are selling.

Don't put Nintendo on the card as it might get you in trouble if the wrong manager sees it. They might see that as over the line. Atari is safe anywhere. No one buys Atari.

Some managers actually see this as a service by helping the customer without sending them to a competitor. Its all how you spin it.

  • what was up with those links atari
  • Should be fixed now

  • why did you do that though, i dont get the point
  • There was no point. I used a cut and paste and it gave me strange results.
  • Does anyone own any ps1 display stuff ?
  • I've a piece of hardware that looks like it was part of a PSone w/LCD screen display kiosk...
