Yo!!!

Wow, I can't believe I just found out about this site. This is awesome. I think this is totally gonna revive my collecting addiction.

I've been collecting NES games for about ever. I quit for a couple years when I was kid and moved on to SNES and Genesis like all the other munchkins, but I picked it back up pretty soon. I can still remember, at that time NES World and TSR's NES Archive were about the only NES-related sites on the web. I don't even think eBay had really taken off. You could pick up awesome CIB stuff at video store sales and sometimes even find sealed games still on the store racks (I remember getting sealed copies of both Startropics games for $7 this way, then... gasp... opening them).

My collection is in the 300s now, with the highlights being a Caltron 6-in-1, Hot Slots, and a Little Samson proto. These were all found in the wild at flea markets and thrift stores. (I don't usually buy stuff off eBay, sort of on principle, and partly cause I force my collecting habits to keep to a strict budget.) Does anyone else remember how awesome it was to be an NES collector in the late 90s? Haha. Man, that was 2 decades ago. Yeowch.

Well, one interesting note is that I live in China now (though I'm from the US), where collecting is a whole different thing since there was never anything officially released here. Everything is bootlegged, and there is some totally weird stuff. I've just started getting into this - I've picked up 20 or 30 carts, and might sell some extras here soon.

Well, nice to meet you all. I'm not the type of person who usually gets into message boards, but this place seems totally cool.

Thanks for making me realize I'm not the only one. Hahaha.

  • Welcome!

A Little Samson proto sounds amazing! Is there anything different in that build from the release build? That would be an awesome item to have indeed.

  • Wow, that's one hell of a proto to have image Any differences from the final version?

Welcome! China's an odd duck as far as video game collecting is concerned, for sure.
  • Welcome to the site. It's cool to have new members here that don't make me feel old.
  • Welcome the NA! Sounds like you have some really unique items.

  • I remember there not being a title screen in the Little Samson proto, but I'm going to have to check it out next time I am home to be sure. It's just a gray cart with a sticker reading "Little Samson" and an EPROM inside. I wasn't sure if it was something a collector burned to an EPROM or if it was an actual vintage proto. I sort of suspect the latter cause the actual cart is so dang hard to find, so there's motivation, and because that flea market seemed to have stolen stuff sometimes. Which I guess makes me naughty. But I'll try to check on it next time I am home. image
