Finally Finished my 64DD collection
Just got the last 2 games, the extremely rare Japan Pro Golf Tour & Doshin 2 for $500 the pair shipped.
Glad the 64DD is out of the way, the prices of that stuff is bound to only go up IMO.
2 more to see the Jap VB set complete and then I'll be sinking all of my cash into the PAL A NES set and Master system set, about halfway there with the NES (~110 out of ~240) and its growing by the day at the moment.

Congrats... I've heard the 64DD collection is hard to complete...
Thanks.
Yeah I'd say it was moderately difficult and quite costly considering theres only 9 games for it and I've been wanting a complete collection for about 8 years since the DD was released. Its one less collection to hunt for now, more time & money to focus on the 8-bit era, lol.
The golf game is supposed to be quite good which is probably unsual for a rare game, there generally rubbish in my experience (most notably SE but I base that fact on its "sequel" WCTM which is supposed to be identical for gameplay)
Most impressive. I've wanted a 64DD ever since I knew they were in development (and I was only, like, 12 back then and had no way of affording one
It is cool playing the F-Zero game with the track editor etc but to be honest most of the games aren't too great because I either don't understand the commands on screen or the gameplay isn't too "advanced". but it is brilliant owning the collection, I was a massive N64 nut back in the late 90's and as soon as I heard about it I wanted it. I think it gives the N64 more of a presence when on a shelf with other systems, and it works fine on a US N64.
As with a lot of the "lesser" nintendo's, (which coincedentaly I seem to be attracted to the most lol), It could have been so much more if it had caught on.
The Super Famicom's equivalent, the Satellaview, was a massive hit in Japan but the DD never caught on, its a shame as a global network on the N64 playing the likes of Goldeneye & Perfect Dark online would of been better than anything todays gaming has to offer IMO. You could only order the DD online as very few were sold in shops and I think the people who used the randnet service got a new game every few months as part of there subscription but as it was failing, many jacked in the service and the last 2 games out via subscription were the two hard to find ones that I've just got hold of, hence them being hard to find.
Does anyone have a pic of the 64dd they could post? I dont think I have ever seen it before.
Heres my DD and games a few months ago, and a few comparisons with other N64's to show the height difference the DD unit makes.
Yeah, those are awesome pictures. I've only seen stock photos or ads, it's neat to see one in a real-life environment.
Agreed, that's a really cool picture! How many games are in the 64dd library?
Just the 9 games + a randnet boot up disc, so 10 unique DD disks.
The games are:
4 x Mario Artist Titles,
2 Doshin the Giant games,
Sim City 64,
F-Zero Expansio Kit
Japan Pro Golf Tour
Pretty cool. I would like to try that expansionunit 64DD. Since I like F-zero X maybe I shuold buy one with that exp unit and play.
The F-Zero Expansion Kit is what attracts 90% of people to the 64DD. I just wanted a complete set because its something really unusual, quite rare and never seen outside Japan, so US & UK collectors are on pretty much an even playing field in collecting these types of system, whereas the likes of the VB is much more biased towards US/Jap collectors rather than UK based collectors.
I suppose its like collecting for other systems, most of the stuff you will never use or even look at once its on your shelf with the rest of your stuff but its just the fact of knowing that you own it thats worth all the money and time.
Prime example for the NES is Barbie, lol.
that is really cool...i would have to disagree on it only going up in value as imports from my general experience stay valued at about the same price over time - which in terms of inflation is an actual decrease in value ----- very cool complete though
Generally I'd say this is true also but I'm a member of 64DD.net and so far there is not a serial number above 30,000 between the members machines if I remember right, so these machines are quite rare, maybe only 50,000 were ever produced I don't know, and these types of systems are generally snapped up by collectors which never resell making less on the market to snap up, driving up the prices. And I'd hazard a guess at even lower numbers of the two rare games being made because it was late in the DD life span.
Maybe SE is a more extreme analogy: with each one being sold there is one less to get "next time" so people knowing this fact will spend that little bit more to have it in there collection thus driving up the prices.
The two rare games cost me more than the actual CIB system! by about $60.
RE Nesboy: Do I like playing the 64DD?
Its more of a novelty than anything else. Yep its great to have the extra menus in F-Zero, or have the ability to play Sim City on an N64 but in reality my Japanese isn't great and the games aren't "that" much more advanced than normal 64 games. It would of been a brilliant add-on if there were expansion kits for goldeneye or mario kart etc to make your own levels/tracks.
Its like the Virtual boy in many ways. Does anyone collect the virtual boy games because they were an avid fan of the VB back in the day or is it for its quirky charm & unusual looks/innovation and small game library? and when the entire collection has been collected, does the collector in question actually play the games or just admire them on his/her shelf?
Sorry for all the questions!

Yep theres a separate box for the 64DD, if you look on the photobucket link at "overall collection", you'll see a yellow box with randnet starter kit on it (this is the 64DD box) on top of my cupboard.
There are two other accessories besides the keyboard, the N64 mouse and capture cartridge (and modem cartridge if you like, but this doesn't do anything now with the service being down) which are included with 2 of the mario artist games.
If you've got any more Q's buddy just let me know, I've been wanting one of these things for about 10 years when I first seen them in mags around the time of the N64.
Just the 9 games + a randnet boot up disc, so 10 unique DD disks.

Good job!! That is one tough system to come across.
I think I have a complete N64DD set somewhere around here; though, I may not have all four of the Mario Artist titles. I'll have to locate that box again to check. I badly need to get myself organized!
