Really Old PC Games

I have seen a lot of old PC games CIB at thrift shops for next to nothing. I was wondering if there are any old PC games that are worth reselling. I believe the box I saw contained Civilization and some others . I also come across quite a few sealed PC games but I never buy them. In my mind really old PC games dont seem like they would sell very well.

What do you think?

Your mind is correct...very few are worth anything at all...someone may now a specific few that might sell at auction but 99% of them are not worth reselling...

^ not true at all. There are many rare and expensive vintage PC games. You just got to know what to look for, seriously.

Josh is correct. I make bank on old "big box" software. Most well-known companies will earn you good money. There are very few exceptions, like dollar-store type cheapo games. This does NOT include shareware games, which are rare to find in retail boxes and can be worth great money. I'm talking no-name brand games that were just pooped out using the Quake engine in the 90's.



The majority of games in a DVD-style case are pretty close to worthless, though. Exceptions include Sims games and expansions, and some very popular games that aren't "ruined" by using the product key once.



But yeah, most older floppy games are worth picking up for the tiny bit of coin second-hand shops will ask for them.

^ even then, you find a pile of so-so games that aren't worth much, you put em in a large lot and ship internationally, they will sell well.

I came across Civilization CIB and some underwater/diving games CIB. I also come across Sim City's, Sim Towers, Sim City 2000 quite often. These worth anything? (They are all CIB)

there are usually different variations of games, 5.25" floppy, 3.5" floppy and pc cd-rom. Some bring more than others. Sim City games and civilization are not worth too much. if you find some more, do your own research. it is not hard to find out if one is worth much by checking ebay.

I took a chance on an Ultima Trilogy CIB with maps for $1 at a rummage sale last summer. Glad I did



I don't know much about PC games but I figured anything Ultima CIB is gonna be ok.

For any of the 3.5" floppy games, remember to look for "Sierra" brand. All of the Sierra series really hold their value well, King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, etc. and all of them have several sequels.

I picked up a sealed Castles II 3.5" floppy game (Made by Interplay). It still has the original Montgomery Ward price sticker.

I've got it. The game was the last of the Papyrus-developed PC NASCAR sims - before EA got exclusivity on the NASCAR rights. The Papyrus games have always had a significant following from sim racing enthusiasts, while EA's titles only really catered to the arcade racing crowd.

The game still has a significant and active online community... online leagues, mods, tracks, cars, etc... no doubt at least one of the reasons the game fetches a few bucks.

No where near the $200+ it used to go for though. I think iRacing (new-ish subscription based racing sim from ex-Papyrus co-founder) may have had something to do with that (or maybe not).

I've got a sealed one too, but they don't seem to be worth anything. There's one on ebay right now with a Buy It Now of $14.99.

As far as 3.5" games go - I've come across a ridiculous amount of sealed Castle II's and those B&N Pinball games for some reason.

I've got a cib Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego.

It's got both 3.5" and 5.25" floppies in there.

Any value to that? I know nothing about PC software.

Carmen stuff in my experience isn't usually worth the pickup.

It's mine from when I was younger, I used to love it. I'm sure you're right and it doesn't have any real value. I think I might install it on my work computer and find out where that asshat is hiding after all these years.

sure, there are plenty of rare ones, but in the grand scheme of things the gems seem to be 1 in 100 for me.  There are an absolute ton of junk pc games out there that are pretty much worthless...every once in awhile you might run into a brand new copy of Myst you can sell on eBay for $1.04

If you ever run into any old Atari floppy disc games buy the ones made by Sirius...they are quite desirable.

I don't expect gold when i buy vintage PC games, but I know there is a market for it. I have found from experience that most Europeans love vintage PC floppy games, Japanese and Koreans love vintage apple II and us North Americans love the atari stuff.

Don't worry, they are plentiful and not worth a whole lot. Not as rare as people would think.

I have found a few Mario Typing games for a $1 each they are plentiful, but cool addition to the collection

I have made so much money on vintage big box PC games oh man. Icewind Dale CE I you! Sierra games I love you also. umm whats that other series ohh Gabriel Knight 1 in the trapezoid triangle box fuck yeah! SO many games you can get for nothing and are worth 20+
