hello NA forum!

hello to all forum members!

after lurking here and reading dozens of posts over the past couple weeks, i registered last night. the NES was my first game console and really means quite a bit to me, that was such an amazing time during the late-80s peak of the system. i remember that i actually bought Metal Gear more than two months before i even got the system, i saw the ad for it on the back of a Transformers comic and just had to have it. had to bring it around to friends' houses just to play it. image got the system along with Zelda and a few other games for Christmas (this would have been the end of 1988), and i was in heaven. so many great games, it's by far my favorite game system overall. of course, like many others, my interest dropped off with the release of the Genesis and SNES and i eventually got out of gaming for years after that (never had a PS1 until my little brother upgraded to a PS2 and gave me his). around this time i found a renewed interest in the NES and started collecting carts for a while after picking up a mint boxed Action Set at a goodwill store. unfortunately, i ended up selling off my collection and boxed sytem around the time my son was born. image ironically, this was a bad move, as we've been playing quite a bit of NES games recently on my hacked PSP. so, i think it's time i get back into it.

i think what i'm going to do for now is to buy a PowerPak from RetroZone and try to find a nice working system. that will do me good for now, and then maybe i'll start buying carts of my favorite games again. some favorites off the top of my head include:

- Dragon Warrior 1-4 (my favorite series of all time, i had so much fun playing the first one when it came out.)
- Final Fantasy
- Metal Gear (obviously! image )
- Duck Tales 1 and 2
- Mario 1-3
- Baseball Stars
- Mega Man 1-6
- Contra (mainly the first game)
- Zelda (didn't like the second game, but should give it another shot some time)
- Darkwing Duck
- Golf (!!!)
- Tecmo Bowl

plenty of others as well, but those are what immediately come to mind.

another thing i'm quite interested in is NES development, though it'll be a bit before i start trying to wrap my head around it. i've been invloved with the Commodore 64 scene for the past few years and understand the basics of 6502 assembly. making a NES game would be a dream come true, i can remember drawing out levels for platformers all the time back in middle school.

well, time to hit the boards to talk about things and maybe ask a few questions. hope to be active around here, this definitely seems like a friendly place. take care!

-justin.

    Welcome dude!
I used to draw my own platformers all the time when i was in grade school. I still have many of the notebooks I drew them in. Its kind of a silly goal of mine to actually make one of them into a real NES game. It would be a trip to play a game on a real NES that you designed when you were 6 and coded when you were 26 image

You sir, are a blast of inspiration. I'm going to dig those notebooks up later.
Expect to see a thread of my childhood nintendo doodlings in the future image
