On like Donkey Kong

Just picked up a project cabinet of Donkey Kong for $150, locally.

The controls and game work, but the cabinet needs new T-molding, and a good cleaning.
The BIG issue is that the monitor needs some work.  It comes on, and appears to make all the right colors, but the is wacky looking.  It gets better as it warms up, but it seems like the game only takes up the middle 1/2 to 2/3rds of the screen, and it's pretty jittery and distorted.

Is this a cap-kit issue, or am I looking at buying a new vertical monitor?

I'm thinking cap kit honestly.  It's an extremely cheap fix, so it's at least worth a shot.

The monitors for those machines are cheap and abundant.  Worse case is you spend an extra $150 for a fantastically mint cab.

Yeah, I called up a local arcade repair hobbyist and he said the Nintendo monitors were fanastic once they were running like new.

I've ordered a cap kit and new T-molding.  Before it's over, I'll probably buy a new bezel (since this one has a chipped corner) and a new control panel overlay (since this one was modded to have a "coin button" ).  I'd love to get some side art, but it's really secondary.

I want to rewire this thing to take coins.  Also, the speaker isn't wired up, from what I can tell, so I'll need to look into that after I do the cap kit.

The current upside, is that my boss thinks this find was cool as hell, so he doesn't mind me stowing it in my office for the time being...saves me explaining it to the wife! image
