NWC Memorabilia For Free

Last year I tried to giveaway a bunch of Nintendo World Championship memorabilia along with a bunch of other rare games.  Everything has has been given away but this memorabilia is turning into quite the pain.

I have randomly selected three different winners who never returned the emails or letters we sent them to say they won.  The fourth person finally contacted us back and said they would take it so we mailed it to them and thought everything was a done deal.  Last month they returned everything saying they didn't want this "junk" and had no use for it.  They also didn't want to pay any taxes on it.

I'm fed up with trying to give it to people who entered but don't really want the items.

I have decided to give it away to someone on NA because I know the winner will keep it and I can finally close out this promotion.

How To enter: Reply to this thread.  Everyone who replies will get an entry (only one entry per person).  Entries will close on February 26th at midnight.

What you win: Everything is pictured and described here Basically a NWC T-shirt, NWC Champion Plaque, Champions Trophy, NWC Insider Guide, and NWC Ticket Stub

Taxes: The winner will be responsible for paying taxes on the winnings.  The items will be valued at $500.

UPDATE TO THE GIVEAWAY

TAXES
The
items will now be valued at $500 so no 1099 will be required.  This
changed because arch_8ngel pointed out that I can use the most recent
NWC Gray sale as the basis for the value of these items.  The most recent sale was $6,500 which makes the memorabilia valued at $500.

Officially you will still owe taxes on the $500 but I will not be sending you a 1099.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
International
members can still win but they will have to pay all shipping charges
and any customs/excise taxes their country requires.  I will write gift
on the page when it is mailed.  The amount due for shipping will be due
before I ship it.

If a US customer wins I will pay shipping at my expense.

It's taxes.  Just as if you go on the Price Is Right and win a new car... you'll be paying for it come April when the IRS counts that car as "income".

    Very few things are "free".
  • Definitely in!
  • I'm in!!! Weeeee!!!

No, I understand how paying taxes work. I guess I am just unaware with what this user is. I thought it was just a regular guy like me and you trying to get rid of some of his stuff.
  • He owns the site and the store in his signature. I'm in - assuming I can be as a Canadian.
  • count me in aswell image
  • EDIT because I was a bitch and I will stay quiet

We don't get taxed on lottery or prizes ;-)

  • I have a feeling in order for it to be a right-off for him, it has to stay in the US.

But we have to answer a skill testing question!  THINK OF THE PRESSURE!

  • $500 in taxes?? why would you value it so much?! that kind of defeats the purpose of winning doesnt it?
  • Please count me in. Mike : )

hahaha, well, there is that and the fact that we get taxed to death in every other possible way!

  • I would love this to go with my nwc cart. I would like to be considered. I will pay on the spot.

x2 - nwc cart + other nwc memorabilia image

  • As the only member that actually misses a NWC trophy and plaque, I believe it should be mine. I'm in. (it would be very odd if I won)
  • Instead of just giving it away I am wondering if this a charitable contribution, and can be a tax write off. That way JJ gets his 2,000 back from the government and somebody has to pay the taxes on it, so you get it cheaper that the $2,000 that was spent on it.

    Am I seeing this wrong???
  • I'll stay polite and positive in saying this, but I just don't feel that this should be done here on NA. It seems that everything JJ has done here has road a fine-line and has been marred in some sort of controversy. I'm not here to judge anyone's intent, but I think a straight sale would be less controversial.

Either sell something or don't at this point. There's too much drama as it is, and this is just gearing up to go down that road.

I want to stress once again that I'm not insinuating anything in regards to JJ's intent. I just think that this type of sale/give-away/whatever it is should be done on his site on not here.

I can definitely appreciate what you mean.  I tried to give this away on my site but wasn't able to, most of the people on my website are not collectors and didn't care about these items.

Selling it didn't seem right because I was supposed to give the items away.

The reason I chose to give them away on NA is because there are tons of collectors on the site and someone who wins will want it.  I don't want to spend another 6 months trying to give these items away to customers on my site who aren't interested.

Well he's not forcing anyone to participate, and I think most of us would rather have a member of these boards win the goods than some random guy never to be heard from again.

Like when Perfect got banned, I immediately regretted selling him my 10/10 Panic CIB.  Consider that as pretty much gone from the community.
