Update: Pretty huge-o Craigslist pick-up

Updated with pick-up Pictures.
See further down the thread.

This is really only my second time trying to work out a deal on Craigslist. The first one was just some GC games but this one is pretty huge. I'm hoping  someone can help me figure out what I can offer the duder and still make some change on it.

17 Complete NES systems (4 need the cord that go from the TV to the game)
194 games
8 joy sticks
17 guns
several extra power sources

8 Complete SNES systems
66 games

11 Segas
35 games

As you can see I have the little problem of this list being pretty general. He's an older duder that use to set up shop in a pretty redneck part of town and said he's just getting to old to sell anymore. I've talked to him on the phone and he sounds like a pretty cool dude, but I'm not sure where his pricing is at. We haven't really gotten into that. So... with just the general number (hoping that the games are worth a poop) what should I pay on something like this?

  • Sweet mother of pearl! Is this that the reply you got to your Wanted ad?

When he says that the NES' are complete, does he mean that they include the boxes? Does anything (Games) have their boxes? Or should we consider everything to be loose?
  • I would almost be certain everything is loose. I would have him write everything in more detail but it seriously looks like its killing him to

write what he has so far. Yar, that reply is all thanks to you my good man image
  • $1000 - $1500?

    17 NES * $40 = 680

    66 SNES games * 3 = 198

    194 NES games* 2 = 388

    8 joysticks * 2 = 16

    17 guns * 5 = 85

    8 SNES * 50 = 400

Total = $1767 Thats how much i think you could get if you resold all the nintendo stuff. I'm assuming nothing is really rare on the list of games. IDK anything about sega so it's not accounted for.
  • Well, just be careful. Considering it's a gradbag for you not knowing the games and overall condition of the games and systems then i wouldn't invest as much. Plus, you might be getting alot of sport games with only a handful worth dealing with? I made that mistake for about 130 games and a system. I just paid $125 and didn't even bother to look in the box. I just figured out of so many games there would have to be good ones. However, it was his personal collection and he had nothing worth my time. the best game he had was Super Mario 3. I can make a profit on the lot but sometimes it's not worth the time. Plus, I think dealing with systems is a hassle. I do not sell systems on Ebay. I only deal with games. But, what I'd do is sell some of the systems on craigslist with games. I've done this several times and then you don't have to worry about shipping and packaging. Anyway, I'd say around $800 and see what he says. Your time needs to be worth the price you pay. Maybe it just feels like a hassle for me at times since I've been selling games for 12 years now.
  • $1000...no way. I'd start at $200 and work your way up. I always start low and then work your way up. You don't go tossing out a high offer right from the get go as he's going to expect more. If you're buying this locally, I'm sure you can score it for under $500. That'd be my goal anyway, unless all the games are Super Mario/Duck Hunt or Top Gun.

Maybe you should ask to see it in person before you offer a price. Check through the stuff looking for nice resells to make a bit of profit. Maybe carry $500 cash with you and say that's all you got. When you're there in person and have cash in hand 9 times out of 10 they take the offer.
  • ^^^agreeimage $500-600 was what I figured you could get it for on my first thought, but if you went and saw it first that would help so much more before you made the offer like Brian said!

Let us know how this works out for you, I am way curious!

  • i would check out the condition before you even start negotiating...find the weak spots of his collection and use that as negotiating leverage
  • i agree and disagree with skullz on this one yes start low but dont start so low that its an insult the lowest i ever offer to start out is $1 per item and usually $5 per system so if a guy has 5 games and a system the lowest i would start off at is 10 bucks otherwise if you offer 200 he might just decide your not serious and then to spite you he may just sell to someone else for 250
  • Okay update, I just got off the phone with the guy. Really the coolest old man ever. Anyhoo I told him to throw out a number he would be happy with and I'd try to get as close as possible. He said that he would have to have $700 on it and I told him if I borrowed some money from the parents I could bring him $600 today. Well that didn't work and he's standing by $700. So, what do ya'll think. ( I really need to work on my offering image time for you to write up a new how to Adam)

Here the new rundown of what he is offering for the $700

21 Nintendo Systems (4 missing RF cord)
    194 games
    8 joysticks

    8 complete SNES's
    66 games

    8 n64's (2 that need power cords)
    extra controls
    7 games

    11 segas
    35 games

    1 sega Saturn

Also he said some of the games have manuals here and there, and a few have boxes. As far as the games go I'm pretty blind. But, he did say that he didn't pick through anything and there were good games in there. All he really mentioned is there were some zeldas.
  • I would go and get it for $700, that's like $2 a game and then another $100 for all of those systems.
  • Definitely go for 700. You can make that alone if you're patient with the NES's. Good luck Ray, hope you get it.
  • fuck yes. 700 is a done deal. think of all the fun you will have going through that shit.
  • What the last 3 folks said. $700 is a steal.
  • absolutelyimage pics pics!!image
  • Do it, then send it to me image
  • go for it but maybe see if once you get there if he will let you look through a few of the games never know what someones opinion of "good" games is
  • Oh yeah, $700 is the magic number. Even if you sell nothing except the 21 NES Consoles at $30 each, you've essentially made your money back, and that whole beautiful lot will be yours at practically no cost.

An offering guide? You may be onto something!

That's going to be super fun to look through! Huge congratulations, on the find, Ray! Post pics! image
