Calling all SMB 2 variant whores!

Ok I'm trying to finish up my master collection list with variants and I've been putting it off forever, ask Dain & Batty, anyways... it's because of ones like SMB2 that just have so many damn variants...

Can people please help out the cause here.  All my variant info will one day be loaded into the NA database and possibly collection tool so your help is appreciated.

It's True!  Help this man out so I can get my goods!
  • Was this one ever sticker sealed? Or was that just the CAN version?
  • CAN version only, I have a couple CAN variants of this one too and all are sticker sealed copies.
  • I has a special sunfaded edition, does that count E?
  • I'm not sure about the sticker seal.

I have a US one (the one you listed in green) Black seal, Rev A over seal. TM next to the 2. It has a Black Nintendo seal on it. Whoever opened it, left it on.

I also have a box that is:

Oval seal. R under the SOQ. REV-A under the SOQ. Black R next to the 2.

It's sort of like the 3rd box in your list, except the R under the SOQ.

    I'll attach a pic.
edit: here's the pic. Hopefully you can make out details.

  • so, what kind of help are you requesting? info on variants you haven't listed?
  • ^ He wants to know if other carts/manuals/boxes exist that aren't on that list. Any variants he may be missing.
  • that's a damn lot of mario 2 manuals in that pic! nice! image
  • WINNER AL thank you the one on the left is in fact a variant box I don't have. Which would be nice cause then it would theoretically house one of teh 3 extra naked manual variants.

That box you have would in fact be box #4 and then the Red R would move to #5 in the box progression.

I have added that one to my master list and my Need list. image Don't suppose you'd sell yours? image

The sticker sealed one is so wierd? Any chance someone just stuck that sticker on there after the fact? It certainly could be legit I've just never seen one????????????
  • I don't know about the sticker either.

The thing is, there's residue on the top where it was attached, as well as price tag residue. In Canada, games were often only sticker sealed, but only CAN boxes, I've never seen a non CAN box with a sticker seal (other than old black box games).

    Al

  • Exactly, tons of CAN and NON NTSC sticker sealed NES games. However I've never seen ANY USA box sealed with sticker other than black box games and of course FFF AW (although that is just black sticker not NES black sticker). WOW what a mystery, I suppose yours could be SUPER early release copy of SMB 2? I'm intrigued.
  • should thre be a non rev-a version? or is it rev-a because it's really doki doki panic?

edit, also could you post pics/scans of the variants you've identified? it would help to have something to compare to.

more edit: is the first set (green) the one in the database now? also it says black seal on the instruction book, where is that seal?
  • NO rev-a is generally accepted as 3 screw cart.

That is a copy/paste of part of my master collection list, in which green is the first release and all yellow are subsequent releases.

Seal on SMB 2 is inside the front cover.
