Making maps for NES games

Hello all,

does anyone use a program like paint shop pro 7 and an emulator to make maps? I've been wanting to contribute to VGmaps but I just can't figure it out. Any tutorial or help would be appreciated. I'm trying to map level 1 of Day Dreamin Davey.

  • Its easiest to do on games that dont scroll which are one screen at a time.
With scrolling games you'll have more piecing together to do and you wont be able to predict such nice places to join pictures.
Find out which ever button makes a screenshot on your emulator (I might be the Prt Scrn key) and get to work taking the pics. If its a scrolling game like davey pick artifacts you can make sure you have in 2 different pictures so its easier to line then up on top of each other.
Ive made very large maps of games just using MSPAINT.
    Some handy shortcuts
CTRL+A = Select All so you can quickly select a whole screenshot to CTRL+C, then paste on your larger map.
  • ^^^ Using a program designed to piece together panoramic images, it would probably be pretty straightforward to put together the maps for a scrolling game.
  • MS Paint FTW!

I've used paint for all the Lego art, Bead art, and dev stuff that I've done. It is awesome once you figure out how to make it work quickly. And it's free.
