Damn, I love this thread. I was actually thinking about doing this myself.. that is, trying to beat every NES game. I was sort of shocked to see someone complete Silver Surfer to be honest. In my opinion though, 3D World Runner is even harder.. So if anyone gets to that one, and legitimately beats it, I might just have to bow down to them.
Well, if you can contribute, go for it I plan to do the same thing myself, and have a running count of what I beat and when (anything before I started I don't count). Check my profile blog for the progress. I've run through a few I'd previously beaten for this project, but most of the 16 I knocked off were new completions, and I've done 21 on the year for my personal list. I know I can't do every game in a year, but it's definitely nice to chip in here and there, and this has definitely fuelled my most productive year yet. Even if we fail though, if everyone tried some new games they hadn't beat, it's worth it
beat Robodemons. I actually had to play through it like 8 times because my system kept freezing at the final boss. I eventually managed to get through it without it freezing, but the ending went by too quick before I could take a pic.
Yeah, well, it's not exactly a one-night title. I need to finish up The Bard's Tale (about 2/3 through) and Might & Magic (about half-way through). Gonna do Romance of the Three Kingdoms II first though...I have a strategy that can knock it out with a couple days of solid playing.
Okay, so I broke out the Zapper and played some Hogan's Alley. I got up to 998,200 points. I thought once you reached around there, it stayed at 999,999? I got a 5k point shot and it reset my score, and kept my high score as 998,200.
Or is it actually in the millions, but only showing the last 6 digits of my score? If so, is there an end to it? Would my score stop at 9,999,999 or what?
Speaking of scores, I was playing Super Mario Bros a few weeks ago. I was trying to get 999,999 points, but after getting more than that, it just added a digit and went into the millions. I think it'd be fun to go for 9,999,999 points, or whatever the limit might be.. but if it would just reset my score, that would really be disappointing.
Edit: though now that I think about it, I remember reading Nintendo Power as a kid - in the back of the magazines used to be a place where people could send in their high scores or best times for completing a game, and unless my memory fails me, several people had 999,999 on SMB.

Yep, it's pretty remarkable that so many people were able to max out their scores on so many games. I was just happy to have gotten into Power Players for beating Castlevania IV!
Well, AdamL doesn't have it listed, but it looks like you wrapped the score. If you did it in either game A or B, you actually just raped the world record by about 600K (game A) or 800K (game , but game C you got about 1/5th of it. Regardless, I would say that looping the score is more than enough to qualify you as having beaten that mode (game is endless, I just count the win at the point when the default high is beaten, unless it's zero, then it's when the score loops). If you beat all 3, I'll mark you as having won
And 999,999 doesn't impress me in SMB. Not when you can milk one spot in the game for as many points as you want...

Yeah, it was game C. My reaction time is just not fast enough to do very well at game A or B. And really, 1/5th of it? I had no idea . And just out of curiosity, where did you get those scores?
I'll take a shot at game A and B again, I think the default high is really low.
Edit: Yep, it's only 12k. Game A I just got 41k and Game B I got 63,500.
Got 'em off Twin Galaxies. Might be tricky to submit though, there's special rules for light gun titles. Can't send in a DVD cuz there's ways to score hits without shooting the screen, so they require you to tape it with a video camera so they can watch you shoot. Either that or go to an event where they have a ref watching gamers. Anyway, sounds like you just beat it I'll mark you down.
Oh, and a heads up Tom - if you still wanna do some light gun games, Wild Gunman is pretty damn easy as well. I once got to round 112 while reading a book on Game A.

Right you are. Consider it done. I just played through all 3 modes and beat the default high scores.
Think there's a few other light gun games that are equally easy. Take a tear through the list and see what you got. I'd've done them myself, but I don't have a TV that isn't a flat screen

I might have a go at Baby Boomer, but I'd have to use an emulator. Which is fine and all, but for shooter games it just takes the fun out of it
Yeah, I think it's a lot harder. You can swivel your wrist to point at another location with the zapper, but to move back and forth with the mouse means you're more likely to miss.
I've always thought the same thing Bea, even though I suck at both of them All Viper has over Rolling Thunder is the graphics, but it's all flash and no substance.
Just completed The Addams Family today. Can't say I enjoyed it too much, I think it would have been 100x better with a password system. I had $1,035,500 at the end.
I played some Pinball too. The default "top score" is 0, so I guess that makes it one of the easiest games to "beat"? Anyway, I got the top score in Game A and B, 1 player mode. Not sure if you are concerned about multiplayer.
I've been playing Pinball as well - for my own little challenge thing, I've been setting 100,000 as my goal, and just achieved that for Game A a day or two ago. Still working on Game B before I can consider my own objective to be complete.
For the purposes of this thread, though, Alderdragon's work may be sufficient. Although at 100,000 points, the flippers turn invisible, so that could be seen as a landmark...
Anyway, it doesn't matter to me, as long as it gets done by the end of the year. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
-This is one of the oldest NES games (1983 on the title screen!), so you
probably knew you weren't going to get an ending. The score resets to zero
when you go over 999,990 points, so consider that finishing the game.
I wouldn't go so far as to say the game needs to go THAT high, but I would like to see either 100K to get to the invisible flippers, or to 150K when the flippers reappear. Apparently it won't happen again unless you roll the score over, so I would call 150K the "official" ending.

You can mark down CAPCOM'S Gold Medal Challenge '92 as done.
Quite interesting Track & Field esque game. I had some fun.
Oh, and zi - how is Shingen? Was curious about it, but some of those type of games are hard to get into.
Or, you know, at least congratulate them.

Yeah, I guess that's true. Good call, Wiz.

I'll put a little write up in the other thread as usual.
I have to say that it's a rather bland, flavorless Rolling Thunder clone.
The original Rolling Thunder is miles better, and more difficult, thus more fun. Bleh.
