That really sucks man. Looking at the bright side, it's somewhat of an interesting story to tell I guess...but it really is a shame that it wasn't the real deal. Hopefully you'll find something nice to make up for it in the near future!
I was so pissed I didn't stick around to find out how he did it. A big find down the tubes. Should have know better. What are the odds.
Well if the guy had a $300 price tag next to it, then how the hell were you supposed to know it was fake? People only know what they are told. Don't beat yourself up man. It sucks, but nothing you could do about it. I would have done the same thing if I were in your shoes (well, actually, I would have bought it to begin with).
Hey, just be glad you were told it was a fake while the guy was there. Just imagine if his employee sold it to you (if he has employees) and then you found out after the fact. That'd suck.
Yah you can't fault him for actually backing out of the deal and admitting the joke.
Many of the flea-market-type resellers would just as soon sell a fake item for full dollar amount and "feign ignorance" even if they know. The same kind of people that would buy a box of old games at $0.25 each ("Hey, I'm giving you a break, I'm buying HIGH today, I usually only give a dime") with BB2, F2 and Little Samson sitting face-up right on top.
lol, i wonder why he did that. I mean, why did he take the cover from a real SE manual, used it as a coaster and then put it on an Athletic World manual? My guess would be that he owned it for a long time before he knew what it was worth or that he just found the cover somewhere and then attached it to an AW manual. Sux tho
