Sachen Little Red Hood

I have a question for all you serious NES collectors. I just bought a copy of Sachen's Little Red Hood and was wondering if anyone could provide a little more info on what I got. It's Sachen, not HES and is complete and in very good shape. I cannot find any pictures of what I got anywhere on the internet. The box is generic (blue graphics with SACHEN in red on front, back, and sides and "MAED IN TAIWAN" printed on the back) with a sticker on it identifying the game inside. The cartridge is black with a label identical to the one on the box. There is a place on the cartridge (upper left corner) which appears to allow something to plug into it. I would like to know what it's collectable value and rarety is if possible.

Thank you very much

  • Thank you for the link. The cart I have is different. The label art is the same but this has printing on it

Little Red Hood TC004 and the SACHEN name in red. The cart is black and has a slot in the front that appears to be used to plug something into it.

  • Interesting, this sounds like an old passthrough that uses a "normal" cart to defeat the lockout. Can you post a pic, Bill? I'd love to see this!
  • I'm not certain if this will work. I'm trying to provide an image of the cart. Thank you for your reply. If you have any idea of the value and rarity of this I would sure appreciate the info.
  • Woah, now that's pretty funky image
  • super cool! you should submit scans to NA (if you can/want of course)!
  • I've no idea what to make of that input port. Perhaps some pirate company thought it would save time/money to preassemble flashable carts and just program to order, slap a label on and send them out? Is it even possible to program a ROM through such an input?
  • this exact cart (the one you have) and box sold for $26 on ebay about 2 years ago. that's all the info i have on it.

EDIT: I've also had one or two Sachen games with those pins. Never knew what they were for though.
  • Looks just like the connector on certain HES carts which use a dongle to bypass the lockout chip
  • A bunch of my Sachen carts have that port on the front, particularly the ones without real boxes.
  • I knew it was only a matter of time before someone whipped out their dongle.
  • Sachen uses like 3 different styles of carts. Ones with no port on them, ones with a port, and ones that have the same port w/ a switch on it.

  • Yes, as NGD said this is nothing new? I'd guess 20 - 30 of the carts in My Sachen set have that port on them. AS far as different labels, different carts, SACHEN didn't give a crap they used whatever they had and threw it together. Hence why most of the later generic copies either have no manual or just a piece of paper. Heck the originals even had plastic cases or Sachen labeled dust sleeves and plastic baggies. The generics just have a styro block in them, nothing else.
  • I've always said, anyone contemplating a full Sachen variant set should get a free straight jacket for their troubles.

Speaking of boxes, I will say I've always liked the design of first run stuff like Street Heroes and Silver Eagle.
  • Yes, I love the first run boxes. I believe I have the closest to a full set of those around. I dropped $2,500 with DreamTR picking up original run stuff back a few years ago and have been trying to pick up the few I'm missing but they just don't come up that often. Seems to be the same 3-5 titles that are only ever for sale with original run boxes.
  • WOW!

Thank you all for your replies. I've gotten a lot of good information about my latest find.

I've been a semi-serious NES collector since 2005 and this is the first SACHEN game I've come across. I've known a little about them, but didn't expect to find one. I paid $30 for this one and I'm happy with the purchase. It's complete with box, manual, and clear plastic cart holder inside and everythings in very good condition. The large difference in value verses rarity still surprises and baffles me. I suppose it's all about what a collector wants and is willing to pay to get it. I have games that are a lot more common and a lot more valuable than this one.

  • It also stems from the fact that most people just consider these AWFUL pirates and not part of the set. Did I mention that the playability is AWFUL? image
  • On a side note, does anyone else have the Sachen adapter ("COOPERATION JOINER, SA-018A") that plugs into the carts? How common is it?
  • fairly uncommon (very rare) I believe
  • There's a gray cartridge shell variation too that only seems to pop up on the earliest titles.

Someday I should have an "ask me whatever you want about Sachen" thread before I forget it all.

The pins are to be used with an adapter, very similar to the HES dongle except it's black. You plug one end the the adapter in the Sachen cart and put a licensed games in the other part of the adapter to bypass the lockout chip. I have lots of Sachen games but I only have two of these adapters and haven't seen one for sale in ages.

  • I miss nes.god and his Sachen sales. I'm soooo glad I decided to sell my Sachen stuff though, otherwise I would have wanted it all. Would not have been fun, mentally or financially.
