Help wanted with a possible SNES variant I found

I came across these 2 games the other day, and I know that theyre only sports games, but I was curious if anybody would know why the same game, on the same system, would come with different labels on them.  They have different license codes on the front of the cart, but they obviously wouldnt re-release a Madden game, so I would just like your guys' input on the subject.  Thanks!

  • I'm guessing a minor roster change would do it. It is kinda weird that they didn't put '93 on the top label of one of them though.
  • The one with the '93 on top of the label allows you to give the QB a Purple Gannon when you "sack" him...

    Wow.... just wow
  • This happened with Roger Clemens' Baseball for the NES. I think that one was because they changed a logo slightly for their company, and decided to fix an aspect of the label while redesigning it. I don't have them both in front of me, but I know around this time LJN revised their logo slightly -- still rainbow, but the letters were make larger and more bold. Anyway, they also changed the photo (slightly zoomed) and the color of the top label (black vs white).
  • Hey Dan, thanks for the great info, as usual! So I guess it was just a label revision, but nothin important. I noticed them at work the other day, so I went ahead and wasted a buck to buy em both to look into it for some extra education. I guess Ill have to give that Purple Gannon power up a try later.
  • The picture cuts out on the label on one of them. One has Electronic Arts' logo...does the other have EASN/EA Sports where the logo is? That could be the difference you seek...

Na, they are the same in every way other than the top label and license codes.  I even checked out some of the rosters on each and they wre identical.
