Hammerin' Harry Arcade

Alrighty, so I got her home.  Here are some pictures!  It's hard to see, but on the fourth pic it shows the problem with the monitor.  Looks like the top inch rolls over.  The game is still playable, but you have no status bar.

  • I would certainly go for it if you have the room. Hammering Harry is a fantastic arcade game (one of my favorites), and Crime City is a nice bonus. Re-capping is a simple process that cost about $10 and takes about 30 minutes of work. You'd want to look up a tutorial first (youtube?) and see if it's something you'd be able to do on your own.

Do you have pictures of the cab? I could maybe tell you more about it having seen it. I wouldn't mind seeing what type of cab the game is in, and possible the CP layout.
  • Hammerin' Harry is a sweet game. I'd jump on it.
  • It's hard to tell exactly what type of cab it is from the pictures, but it looks to be in OK shape. I was hoping to see a two player layout due to the inclusion of Crime City, but I'm not surprised to see the ambidextrous one player layout. That seems common amongst HH cabs.

If the monitor isn't terrible, I would certainly consider it. I'm a little weary recommending that cab as your first arcade experience should be a with a fully working machine. I would hate to suggest you buy it just to have a headache on your hands and a bad taste in your mouth.

If you do pick it up, I would suggest getting a new CPO. I feel like I need to wash my hands just looking at the thing lol.

Keep us posted regardless of what you decide to do.
  • Well, we'll see what the wife says. I was planning on building a MAME cabinet this summer anyway. I'm fairly mechanically/electronically inclined, so I'm not too worried about any fixes that need to be done.

Well this would be a great candidate for a MAME cab.  The two pcbs alone would easily pay for the cost of the machine, and the CP is begging to be reworked.

I just started running MAME in one of my cabs, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

  • Looks like it might be a conversion from Ghouls and Ghosts.

It certainly could be, but there are numerous other cabs with a similar layout (Black Tiger and Tiger Road come to mind).
  • Hey guys, I picked this up today. He says it was originally a Joust Cabinet. I'll have to take some detailed pics of the cab today, and maybe you guys can steer me in the right direction for the slight monitor problem.

Unless the entire control panel was rebuilt (rather than a simple CPO conversion), that was not a Joust cabinet, since Joust is a 2-player-simultaneous game.
  • Updated with pics.   Let me know if you can point me in the right direction for the monitor problem.

Since it's a conversion, I'm guessing the owner's manual doesn't have anything about the monitor, right?

I'd recommend opening up the back of the cabinet, and finding the info about what monitor that actually is. Once you know that, then you can find the necessary cap kit, and recap the thing.

Also, once you know what monitor it uses, you can find the actually manual for the monitor, and it has a huge trouble-shooting flow chart that you can just follow to solve any problems that arise.

These things were designed to be maintained and repaired by  people with minimal technical training.
  • Alrighty, so it is a WG 19k4615 monitor. Says it was built in 1981, so it's about time for a cap kit anyways. The colors aren't too bright either, and from what I have heard it could be the same issue. Is there an online resource for monitor manuals, or do I have to buy one somewhere? A google search for 19k4615 manual didn't get me any results.
  • If you search the KLOV monitor repair subforum, you will likely find what you're looking for.

If it's not already posted there, then ask, and a few of the guys will be sure to respond with what you need. They are all VERY helpful people.
  • Alrighty, thanks Nathan, I'll give that a try.
