Best of the best Atari 2600 games, please recommend!
Hello!
Recently y acquired an Atari 2600 (woodgrain is sleek
). I'm asking you to recommend Atari games. I don't intend to collect rare or obscure stuff here, just the fun common games (already got Combat, so much fun!).
Also, can you recommend the Atari remote controllers? I guess they work with radio signals instead of infrared, as NES wireless controllers do. So I'm guessing they perform better.
Also, is there anything like a "Powerpak for Atari"?

Imagic titles like Atlantis and Cosmic Ark are ones I remember loving as well.
Later in my collection I picked up Turmoil, it's harder to find but a GREAT twitch-fest.
Also you can't go wrong with most Activision titles, they're almost universally high quality.
Both fantastic, fun and amazingly addictive.
miner 2049er is fun, also Kaboom! Most Activision games kick ass.
Pressure Cooker
Plaque Attack (Can't believe this already got a vote, nice work kagemusha!)
FrostBite
Oink (One of the best 2-player games for the system)
Missile Command
Warlords and Super Breakout are the best games to have if you own a paddle.
And to answer your question about joysticks, pick up a pair of Wico Command Control sticks. Best joysticks on the market imo.

When I read this, I had a geek-gasm. Pass me a cigarrette please.
Thank you all for your suggestions; I had in mind many of the games mentioned. I'm intrigued that no one mentioned games like Moon Patroll or Asteroids. Snoopy vs the Red Baron is also a great game.
Anyways, with the find of an atari powerpak, I will take my time to get nice copies (CIB if possible). This kind of thing takes off the pressure of collecting.
Great input guys, thanks

I picked one of these up at the expo (#4!) and it works like a champ. I'd highly recommend it.
Some of my favorite games:
Pitfall II
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Kaboom!
Megamania
Demon Attack
Warlords (GREAT 4-player game!)
Phoenix
Adventure
Stampede
River Raid
Cosmic Ark
Keystone Capers
Dragster
E.T. (I'm the other guy that liked this game)
Basically anything by Imagic or Activision is a near-sure bet.
Shark Attack!!! And 'Tron Deadly Discs' are rule. What's been said rocks though. I love Missile Command and Atlantis.
That's intellivision, dude.
I know everyone always trashes it, but I actually really enjoy E.T.
I agree as well. I've always though ET was fun. You just need to get used to the controls and such.
My girlfriend who grew up playing Genesis (never played NES, let alone Atari before meeting me) sat down and played it with me giving her tips and she thought it was awesome.
