Almost had a heart attack

When I saw this my heart started skipping a few beats, then almost stopped.

The title was "Nintendo Challenge $110". Hmmm.... Nintendo challenge? This could be worth looking at. Description: "comes with four games SMB3, PinBot, Dr. Mario, SMB. These games seperately cost $60 each"

My heart skips another beat, have I found another Campus challenge? So I send a quick response asking for a picture. They say that they don't have a picture, but just to search for nintendo challenge and I will find what I am looking for, and it never came with a box. Ok, Campus Challenge wouldn't have came with a box, a google image search for nintendo challenge comes up with "Nintendo Campus Challenge" results... then it finally hits me. This is too good to be true. It is a Nintendo Challenge Set, that just happened to have the 3 games that were on the competition cart.

Has anything like this ever happened to you guys?

  • I honestly don't know how it deceived you man. Of course, I never think it's gonna end up being a hidden gem image
  • What can I say, it was a case of tunnel vision.
  • thats pretty funny, yea when I first started to get into collecting (as in 3 months ago) it was right after the huge stadium events debacle. i was searching through craigslist ads, and i came across one in new york that was selling 3 games; smb/duckhunt, winter games, and stadium events! i swear my heart did skip a beat, and i think i emailed that ad at least 3 times that night asking if it was available, if she could ship, i was even saying i could drive down there.

the next day the ad was deleted and i kind of knew then it must have been a scam. rookie mistake i know.
  • Yeah it happens. I remember when I first started reselling in Summer 08, I found an ad in either Arkansas or Missouri CL with about 15 CIB games and Stadium Events was one of the ones listed. Believe it or not, I still have an underlying suspicion that it may have been real.

I remember it was typed very well, not poor broken English and grammar. Someone selling games from the attic and the list was very reasonable. Had some populars like Mario 1 2 3, Contra, Mike Tyson, etc. The only "rares" were Stadium Events and Duck Tales 2, though he owned the first Duck Tales as well.

I just figured if someone was trolling, it'd either only be Stadium Events and populars or only rares. Seemed odd that he'd have both SE and DT2 in the same listing if he was just a troll.

Never heard back, I just tell myself it was a hoax anyway so who cares.
