How to get stickers off of a sealed NES game?

Hey guys, so I'm thinking of buying a sealed NES game that has a few price stickers on it. They are the little bright orange kind. Would goo gone work on a sealed game? Would it screw up the shrinkwrap? My first inclination would be to use a hair dryer but I feel that could definitely heat up and warp the shrinkwrap. There is also one of those small, rectangular, plastic security tags on it. Would goo gone work for that as well? I don't mind store-specific stickers, but the orange sale stickers and security tags, I could do without.

Oh, and I searched the forum for similar questions, but most threads talk about getting stickers off carts themselves, or boxes.

  • i would try the goo gone
  • A lot of stickers will simply peel off cleanly if you are careful and go really slow. Just don't try to rip it off in a fast motion... have patience. Goo gone also works too, but try to use it sparingly. Hair dryer can work too. Practice and patience with these methods is the best way. Oh and as for the security sticker, those can also sometimes be removed, but they are much, much more difficult.
  • Goo gone works wonders. That said trust me on this. SOAK it totally and let it sit on it for a long time, if you try to peel it up too soon it will pull the plastic and it will look disfigured. If you let it soak through long enough it will basically come right off like it was never there. Also make sure there aren't little holes in the plastic right where you use the goo gone as it easily gets through and you can tell where it did. Although that will usually go away with time.
  • Ditto Braveheart! I would almost advise NOT to try and remove the security tab, espcially on a rarer title.
  • So I definitely don't have to worry about the goo gone damaging/dissolving the shrinkwrap?
  • If they are little price stickers, i would just leave em. I deal with super huge large ones, those stink
  • I'd agree with the above. Sometimes those stickers add the flair, I especially love pricestickers like those seen on some SE's.

Edit:  It can give the game an identity other than seald Mario brothers.  It's the Mario that was sold at said store for said price, and managed to escape the butchering block to live a full life.

  • Nah, no risk to the shrinkwrap really. Like Braveheart said though, try not to let any seep underneath the shrink.
  • !?!?!@J@IJH#@!1jI!U*(@UY(*Y@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO I used the goo gone, and here are no holes in the shrinkwrap, and the goo gone stained the box underneath!!!!!!! Arrrgggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!
  • It looks like there was the tiiiniest little hole under the sticker. FUDGE! So will the goo gone stain eventually fade away?
  • Well, it looks like the stain has dried, wasn't bad after all. But, the shrinkwrap is a little wavy/disfigured from me peeling it off when I panicked after seeing the stain! I won't be trying to remove any more stickers.
  • Yeah, got a sealed game with 2 stickers, left em both. It's just not worth taking the chance. CIBs are a completely different animal, I always take them off, unless there is something unique about the price sticker.

Like Dragon Warrior IV for $1.99? >:-P
  • I think that would qualify, as long as it wasn't a huge ass sticker
  • Update! The shrinkwrap that was disfigured a bit has miraculously shrunk back to form! It's barely noticeable now.
  • Damn, that's good news!
