garage sales in 2010
EDIT: Another garage sale find at the bottom.
This is actually the first decent garage sale day we've had, there were quite a few on craigs list so the hubby and I got started early and headed out. There was only one sale that mentioned NES games so we headed over that way. We stopped at a couple along the way and of course there was nothing. We got to the sale that said they had games and I went one way and my husband the other. I looked over towards where he had gone and saw him standing at a table over a box so I headed over there and he was standing over a box of games. By the time I got to him there was some guy hanging around him. I guess there were some other games and systems too, but I always head to the NES stuff.
I called Otto and read most of the games, which I am pretty sure he has all of, then I checked on the price and they said 40.00. Otto said it was too much and we hung up the phone. While my husband hung over the box and the guy hung around my husband I went and asked if they would go down on the price and they said they would go down to 35.00, so we took it. I think we did good and even if he can't really use any of the stuff it will be great for resale or trade. My husband would not leave the box because he was sure if he let go of it that guy would have grabbed it right out from under him...he was hoping we would leave it, I'm sure.
Let me know how I did...this is what I got...a NES system, 4 controllers, a gray zapper, a 4 score, a game genie/book, a gamepro hot tips book and the following games:
Bases Loaded II / instructions
Double Dragon / instructions
Legend of Zelda II / instructions
Major League Baseball
Pro Wrestling
R.B.I. Baseball
Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt
Super Mario 3 / instructions
Tecmo Bowl / instructions
Tecmo Super Bowl / Instructions and other inserts
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / instructions
Top Gun
WCW Wrestling
Wheel of Fortune / instructions
plus all the games had black sleeves.
I also got the following instructions:
Kings of the Beach
R.B.I. Baseball II
Skate or Die 2
Tetris
World Cup
and Donkey Kong Country SNES
There was also a plastic tub that holds 10 games and inside the system...you know you always have to check inside the system and hope for something good to be in there, right!!! Inside this one was a Gold Zelda cart... I think I did very well there.
We stopped at a few other sales too, then at a small flea market where I found American Gladiators for 1.00.
All in all I think it was a great day. I found a book for myself and a few books for my granddaughter and my husband found a few items too. Plus it was a beautiful day just to be outside.

Every garage sale I have hit this year has come up dry
My GF and myself went to over 20 garage sales in the past couple weeks, and I've found a few PS2 games and 2 dreamcast games. That's it. Really sucks around here lately. I found an NES and 3 cheap CIB's in great condition a few years ago... literally the last I've seen of NES at garage sales. It's actually really frustrating. I talked to a reseller buddy who's not in my area, and he said there are 2 shops around here that buy everything on craigslist, and a third that literally has "garage sale teams" to clean up house before people like me get there at noon. Reeaaallly frustrating. If I found that lot, I'd piss my pants. So, good find.
Got a huge lot the other day at a yard sale. About 200 games (CIB Mario 2, Tengen Tetris), 2 nintendos, power glove, mat controller, Sony PSP, and a couple games for $250! Looking to sell most of it as it is taking up way too much room.
You need to put this in its own thread rather than posting here. Not the right place for this.
Good job on the games....does it seem like there are less sales this year?? We haven't had near what we typically have. It looks like people are keeping what they have rather than selling. I thought it would be opposite because of people needing money, but it seems as they are making do with what they have.

Even though I am rapidly selling most these games. When I do make a list I will make a thread. Probably won't be anytime soon as I have been packing up games and sending them to people that will enjoy them.
Got the following at one sale today for 10.00:
Game Boy Color (purple),
Game Boy (green) and the following game boy games:
Blades of Steel
Castlevania Adventure
Donkey Kong
Heavyweight Championship Boxing
Home Alone
James Bond 007
Mario Land (lable is almost completely gone)
NHL Blades of Steel
Pokemon
Street Fighter
WWF War Zone
and one lone DS game: Crash Boom Bang
Then the last sale we stopped at on the way home I got the following for another 10.00
1 Orange zapper
Adventures of Bayou Billy
Barker Bills Trick Shooting
Bases Loaded II/instructions
Big Birds Hide & Speak
Blades of Steel
Caesars Palace/instructions
Dr Mario
Hogans Alley
Infiltrator
Othello
Sesame Street 1 2 3
Snakes Revenge
Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt
Considering how hard it is getting to find games in the wild, I don't think it was too
bad of a day. Hopefully the rest of garage sale season will be as good if not better.
At least, that's all I find. One can only tolerate so many ceramic ducks.
"latest find...15lb box of legos for 2 bucks!"
of me and asking it they had any video games...the kid there said he had some in the basement and the kids mother started asking this guy if he was looking for anything special and she started naming off almost every system out there. I stayed to see what the kid brought up and it was a gameboy and some games for it.
The kid started showing the guy what was there and he said he didn't care what was there, just how much did he want for it.
Well, I left then, and had no luck the rest of the day. I know there are collectors out there, but it really bugged me that he was there and a step ahead of me each time. My husband said not to worry about it, but it still bugged me. Well, on Saturday we went to a totally different neighborhood quite a few miles away in a totally different city and wouldn't you know it, he was there again. I talked to him once and he said he had just gotten there and hadn't found anything yet, but everytime I turned around he was a house ahead of me. Again, my husband said not to worry that he wasn't finding anything either, but it still bugged me. I ran into him again and asked him how he was doing and he said he had picked up a box of about 40 games and some different systems and other games. Well this really blew my mind...I wasn't finding anything and he had found all of this stuff...but my husband said he was probably just as pissed as me having someone there looking for the same stuff, that he was telling me stories just to get me upset, and that he figured the guy really had found nothing, just like me. I mean I did see a few xbox games and some play station stuff, but no nes stuff, and maybe he picked that stuff up...but knowing there are other collectors out there, and running into them when you are looking for stuff is a really disturbing thing. It really blew my mind...I know it shouldn't have bothered me, but it did.
Needless to say, I found nothing in either neighborhood sale, but I did go to the local flea market on Sunday and picked up the following games for a buck each: Starforce, Soccer and Gauntlet (unlicensed), so it wasn't a total wasted weekend like last weekend was, and the weather was much better than last weekend too.
Anyways...I hope for better finds during the summer and hopefully will not run into that guy again this summer.
Honestly, if he's really a collector and not the guy running that shop that Otto frequents (and even if he is), it might be in your best interest to befriend the guy. Who knows, if you scoop some dupes at one place and he happens to scoop some cheap dupes elsewhere, you might be able to hook each other up. Frankly, I enjoy finding other collectors in town.
I like that there are other collectors around too, but you could tell that this guy just wanted to buy up whatever was there for no matter what the price, I could tell that by how impatient he was when the kid at the one sale was showing him the games with the gameboy and he was just saying he didn't care what was there and only wanted a price. He even told me that he didn't care what he bought and never even looked at any of the stuff until he got home, and that he had every system ever made. It just made it stressful, because he was a house ahead of me everytime I looked up and I knew that if they even had one game it would be gone before I got there...very greedy on my part I guess, but what can I say.
Went to a couple neighborhood sales today...and asked at each house if they had any video games and of course they all said no. I did stop at one sale that advertised games and he had some dreamcast and wii and a few xbox games but nothing that interested me. I ended up buying a gameboy camera, a roll of printer paper and a Final Fantasy DVD for $1.00 each and he threw in a pokemon pinball that he said needed a battery. Then at one sale I asked if they had any games and was told no, but noticed something even better...a bedspread, towel and washcloth and a pair of mario curtains...no price on them so I asked how much they were. The woman said she didn't really know what to ask so for me to make an offer...the stuff is used but not in bad shape at all, and I had no idea how much to offer...so I said $5.00, she thought for a minute and said that would be good... I was excited, since this is one of my first finds like this...EVER!!!!!!!! yay for me:-)
