  • Always keep an eye out on craigslist/ebay. Most people have saved searches that they check every day. Unless you are really active, its easy to miss things like that.

    Also, welcome to the site!
  • The store cases are usually found locally by those that own them (on Craigslist or Ebay), because they are generally too large to ship.

As for rare signs and such, those are usually bought on Ebay or right here on NA... But people sometimes get lucky and find them locally.
  • Check with companies who do liquidation/salvage in your area. You never know what they might have! I've seen a few ads on craigslist for display cabinets and such from game stores that have gone out of business but I have no interest in stuff like that.

Here we go again....why is it so many new collectors are focused on rare items and signage?

Anyways, good luck on the search. There isn't really anyone here that can point you to a warehouse full of this stuff. You are going to have to do some digging yourself, there are many new (and old) collectors looking for these same items. Just expect to have a limitless bank account and you will be fine.

Im not just looking for rare items im doing my entire basement as a nintendo game room so i figured it would be nice to have more then jjust your average mario decal (although i am going to have a donkey kong one haha). But yeah.

to everyone else thanks for your advice on where to look ill have to check places like that out in my area and hopefully come across a gem. Actually i just had a guy offer me a free test station cause it doesnt work. But ill fix it haha

  • Also check game stores and pawn shops. Some of our members have done amazing finds just asking for old game stuff. Where there is storage there is old stock image
  • I have Nintendo signs that were used at CES. If anyone is interested, please send me a message and I'll give you my email address so that I can send pics. (Having trouble getting the PM here to send pics.)

    Thanks, Dane.

I always laugh when I see this.... The manual is only 2% of the set?

If that is the case, then I have at least 2% of the set Complete..image
Not really, I have one complete, minus the foot pedal...damn, why do I keep buying them if they are not CIB. Just no room for 3 piano's in the house.

I understand you, I began the same way you did 5 months ago, wanting everything I saw. My advice is to first get the most functional stuff (best controllers, like the advantage, and the best games). After that I guess it's a matter of accumulation: buy little by little, with a set budget (weekly, monthly) and you'll see your collection grow. A ROB here, a Laserscope there... a Neon sign later... Maybe, if you don't want a sign for collectible value, you can just pay someone to make you a neon sign replica.
  • Thanks man. Yeah it would be nice to have some stuff with value but all and all I just love old school nintendo its def not about the money for me.
  • Look everywhere, but here is a good start. Enjoy the hunt. And btw, who gives a shit if you want a NWC and standium events and what ever other rare things you can think of. Just because you're new to collecting doesn't mean you shouldn't want these things. I've been collecting for a while, and rarity doesn't mean jack to me, but that's me.

Sorry, I just hate it when people post that new collectors shouldn't be so focused on rare stuff. Do what you like. And it shows you're smart asking for advise in a thread like this. Not some new "collector" who goes and dumps $5k on a PAL Stadium Events because it's supposedly "rare".
  • tuxedocivic, I think that advising not to go for rarer stuff at first is mostly a wise tip. It's easy to get jaded with collecting if you start buying super-rare games that are actually awful, or controllers that don't have a good design. Even more with Ebay, hosting several examples of these items at the same time, you feel tempted to bid/buy everything in sight.

I concede that this may be not the case for everyone, it depends on the person. For example, I started only 5 months ago, and I got my ROB with gyromite accessories complete, in the 1st month. Even though I really don't play with it a lot, I enjoy just to look at it, and to show off the technology to my friends, and to think I own a piece of history (the very thing that worked as a Trojan Horse for Nintendo). On the other hand, I have collected several things in the past, so this isn't really new for me.
  • the majority of my stuff came from a pawn shop my buddy owned, he'd save me everything that came in for me to thumb through it, he was selling me any nes game for $5 in the box or not, title didn't matter that's where my dragon warriors, secret scout, lots of rares were a awesome find. go into a shop enough, start getting perks.
  • ^^ I agree with Mr. Nintendo, you need to get friendly with the locals. Trust me you gets lots of perks image. What a mean by this is discounted games, I don't know what you were thinking...
  • first trick is get there name, start calling their name everytime you see them, i got to know the guy that owns the local blockbuster, and he'll call me before he puts the used games out for sale.
