Ebay was super slow yesterday

My friend had a ton of game auctions end with zero bids. like 40 games. He offered discount shipping for .50 a game after the first which was only like 4.50. Lot of collection filler games ended with no bids. Thought auctions on sundays would draw some attention. Donkey Kong 3 only went for 1.79....kirby 1.04, mega man 3 for 2.50....... many games super cheap. What did he do wrong? and anyone have any good hints at a better way to set auctions up? Everytime i try and win some nes games for cheap like this every single game usually gets between 2-3 dollars with games like mentioned above getting atleast 7 or so.

  • can you give an example of what oen of the auctions looked like?
  • yeah one second let me go find one of his completed auctions to get the link.

Stock photos are probably hurting them.

EDIT--Hmm.. maybe not, thought they ended yesterday but was the 15th. Oops.
  • oh sorry dk3 ended for 2.25 at the last second but still ridiculously cheap for someone who won multiple games. Here is the link to that one.

  • 1) Maximum allowable shipping in the "Games" category is $3.99 so he must have used the "Vintage Games" category. As such, most buyers turn away from any game that costs more than $3.99 to ship nowadays.

    2) Inefficient titles, no one is searching for "Shipping Discount". Would have probably been better to spam a few more keywords or at least put "TESTED" in caps in the title.
  • shipping and discount are a waste of space, put like Rare, and NR, or somtin
  • Games like Star Tropics with zero bids when they could have been had for 1.49 baffles me.
  • he was thinking discounted shipping in the title might get people to buy multiple games. People actually search for RARE?? lol. MARIO BROS 3 RARE lolol
  • i guess he did use the vintage games category. I wouldnt think that would make a difference if your searching for an NES game youd still be able to find it.
  • RARE works very well im not joking
  • also put clean tested nice

    things like that
  • and never use stock photos
  • he didnt use any stock photos but i guess ill tell him to use rare next time. Mind boggling how really stupid some people are....just wow.
  • ive never once typed rare into the search field when trying to find something lol.
  • If I were your friend I would advertise here and other video game trading sites. There is a section called auction spotlight. You tell NA these are yours (or your friends auctions) then at least people might look at them. I advertised my turbo express on a couple sites and I got 30 snipers watching it. However it doesn't always work no one seems to want my Modern Warfare 2.

    Tell me about it.
  • A few years back, I would put #xx/xxx in the title of each listing, only using one picture of the bulk of the games over and over, I put shipping as $3 + $1.50 for each additional game and I made out like a bandit. Maybe he could try something like that next time.

I probably would have bid if I had seen them, but when I see auctions at $4.50 shipping, I won't click on them because I assume that their discounted shipping means $1 off of $4.50 for each additional.
  • I say it was the 4.50 shipping for a cart only auction. Never charge more than 2.50 and 1.00 each additional. People are tired of paying 4.50 for cart only and it showing up first class for 1.86. I started charging 2.50 and sales improved!
  • He was thinking people would look at the total cost and realize the savings. Thats what i do. I add up the total and look at it that way. People are so dumb. The auction that was the biggest flop was someone literally got kirby and mega man III for 8.54 total.
  • where i work those games would atleast cost you 16 total and we sell a lot of NES games too cheap.
  • ever since ebay went up to .50 cents for BIN he thought that auctions would be the better bet since you get the first 100 each month for free. Well that bit him in the arse.
  • .50 for BIN listings is flat out ridiculous

  • I'm such a jew with shipping, you have no idea. I'm sure a lot of people are that way. I've probably passed a good 30-40 manual only auctions because I cannot fathom paying more than a buck fitty for shipping (which is, of course, reasonable for a stack of paper).

For what it's worth, a friend on mine on DP listed stuff that ended yesterday and he got hosed to. Such is the crapshoot of listing actual auctions on eBay.
  • yeah yesterday must also have been a super slow day
  • he was selling alot of dupes and stuff he found at flea markets. Didnt lose money but should have gotten much more.

There is no "should of" on ebay only could of. If you want to sell games and don't want to risk them going for $1 try selling them here on NA or another video game trading site. Or you could just pay the 25 cents and list them for up to $9.99.
  • Quest4nes are you trying to build up your post count or something?

Lol, you are allowed to post more than one thought in the same post.

Exactly.  You want a fair value for MM3?  List it at $4.99 with a $6.99 BIN option and I guarantee it sells.  Sure you pay $0.30 in listing fees but the extra $4 that you make over the $2.25 ending price kinda cancels it out...
