Indeed Nintendo versus Sega (or Mario versus Sonic) was like Democrat or Republican--you were one or the other, you can't be both (though some in my local state gov't do try! image )
  • I'm a huge fan of both. Mario vs. sonic wasn't my deal though, it was more about Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, and Zelda vs. Altered Beast, Shinobi, and Beyond Oasis. Then sega genesis had Contra Hard corps and Castlevania bloodlines and I was all messed up.
  • Dain, I'd gladly take up running SegaAGE, but there's no guarantee I'd run it as well as NA is run. That is, if someone else hasn't done it already. I'm not too good at coding though, so all the basic DB stuff I could populate but not set up (I learn quick, but not quick enough to build it from scratch). Plus you are aware of my disappearing acts so it may not be the best move...but I'd be glad to help out if necessary image

As for the Nintendo vs Sega argument, I'm a fan of both...and in terms of Sonic vs Mario, I'm a fan of neither. And Pepsi vs Coke, honestly I can't even tell the freakin' difference image

That's what I'm saying, at the end of the day, I'm jumping on monsters with corporate mascots to get rings and coins. Either way, segaage (that just looks weird) would be great so count me in, I just wanna know if my username and password info will carry over or not if I become a member?

I just read the full thread.  Apparently your login is the same, but your post counts would be tracked separate, despite the same account.  It will link both sites in your profile though, and I think feedback would transfer between the two, as would PMs and other crap.
  • Thanks dude.

    Have you tried Sega-16.com?
  • sega-16.com is a great site and they really helped me track down some hidden gems through their reviews.
  • C'mon Dain get this shit rolling. As I said before, I'd be happy to do anything to help, mod, write for an Ezine ETC.
  • Put my name on the list of people that want to see this happen, good part is 3/4 of the work has already been done!

You can't rush the artist while he is working on his masterpiece, and the masterpiece is NA! image

SegaAge will happen, but alas he's only one man..

It's not about being a Pepsi and Coke guy, it's about preserving information about systems and generating a community around those systems. For me, it's about giving people that enjoy those systems a place they can call home. Promoting retro gaming in any form is good for all retro gamers and the retro gaming community as a whole. It's not about Nintendo vs. Sega any longer (Sega lost that battle long ago). AtariAge, NintendoAge, DigitPress, etc -- these are thriving communities that tend to have a lot of cross pollination. If we build the largest Sega community, it will help all of these communities because you'll get new people coming in specifically for that community, only to find out about all the other possibilities.

  • WELL SAID DAIN!
  • edit- wrong thread
  • I be the one to Join when you get it up Dain..

  • Dain put it better than I could, but he's right. To me, it's about retro gaming in general, I have more nes games than I do for any other system but that doesn't stop me from collecting any other console. I love my sega genesis and my old Playstation titles. I grew up with several consoles and I enjoy each one in their own unique way. Why limit yourself when there are so many games to be had for each system that are truly classic.
  • I'll be joining the site as soon as it's up as well. I put more hours into the Genesis than any of the other consoles out at the time. I love Nintendo more than pretty much anything but I'm not a brand specific person. I feel any game console that puts out quality games is worth promoting and championing just as much as the big ones.
  • Hmmm, might give me a reason to further persuade my girlfriend to collecting genesis games :-p
  • Ohhhh it's new!

  • ^^ looking forward to it's launch.  I'm ready to see some insanely awesome Sega collections like this guy has:

That's what I get for falling off the map for a decade I guess.... I still will never play a Sega console just out of old school loyalty.

You are missing out on a TON of great games, if that's the case.

The NES and Sega Genesis are the two absolutely indispensable retro gaming consoles.  I love 'em both.

  • ^^^^^ 2nd this. I felt like Dreamcast and Saturn where the gems of the Sega consoles tho. Nintendo was my first system but after that is was Sega all the way **Grabs flame shield**

EDIT - don't get me wrong I had gameboy, SNES, N64 and a gamecube but when the new systems dropped I always got Sega first and rumor has it they are developing a new system right now and I'll day one it if the rumors are true

Sega does comes out with a new system. I'm so getting one.
  • Those rumors have been going around for years,i honestly don't think there's any way it will happen. i really hope they do eventually get back into the console war, i would also buy a new Sega console on day one. my first two consoles were nes and genesis so i got alot of play time out of both, after that i only bought nintendo consoles except for the dreamcast which i bought right when it launched.

Both Nintendo and Sega released tons of excellent games for 8 and 16-bit (the 32-bit-and-beyond era lost me, sorry), and that, friends, is the truth.

Though I would have loved to have seen an MTV Celebrity Death Match between the Genesis and SNES.
