Hypothetical Ebay situation

and you get it for a steal (around 18% less than going rate), but it was described as perfect and when it comes (surprise!) has a hole in the corner (lowering value by more than 25%).  It is still probably worth a bit more than you paid as-is, but you were looking for mint (sealed).  Do you complain?  And what do you say?  ask for a partial?  send it back?

  • that just happened to me

I bought a lot of 30 games near mint in new codition

and 4 games were literatly split right in half like someoe sawed them in half and about 10 lables were almost completly gone but the other games were in near mint condition and would make my money back but i didnt know exactly if i should send them back or just cut my losses
  • id complain and ask for partial refund personally
  • definitely complain and ask for a partial refund.
  • I guess the first question you should ask yourself is would you have bought it knowing the true condition.? It's a strange situation that can leave you feeling like a scammer or the scam-ee depending on what happens. Yes that's a word image
  • If i new the conditon wasnt as explained and showen in this case i would not have bought the product. and i have asked for a parital refund and they just say send it all back but if i do i am out 30 dollars
  • In your case mitchell, you have a open and shut case of goods damaged AND not as described. If you file and whine a little, Paypal (or ebay?) will give you a printed free shipping label... at least they did with me.... then i got refunded the cost plus my shipping to boot. Just say you have absolutely NO money to ship it back and see what happens.
  • Okay thanks robin
  • so my question is... what if you would want to keep it if he/she said "just send it back" because it's still worth what you paid and you might not get another one for a year or more. is it unethical to bring up a partial if you are going to keep it if they ask?

Really i tried that and they told me tough, when i got a "mint"  DK classics cart that wouldnt even work because the pins were corroded and one partially broken/rusted off, and the outside of the cart looked like a car mechanic packaged it.
  • Depending on the deal, I would send it back. I mean if you get a lot and all games are described as mint and you get a mint SE and a jacked up bases loaded...obviously, I would keep. If you buy DW3 and 4 in a lot for $50 and DW4 is jacked up, I would send back. It all depends on the deal. I will always ask for a partial...even if it is just slightly messed up. If they go to all the effort to describe the items, then I expect them to be what they say they are. If they say, "games are in good shape and works fine", then I'm just basically expecting them to work.
  • only bid on items that have pictures and not stock would be the very best start. you are almost always going to be upset otherwise on a deal to good to be true
  • I had an item with a picture but you couldn't tell, unless you looked reall close, he said he would refund me a partial amount, but never did. I kept it, because it was a sealed game I haven't seen much of. It sucks all the same.
