Castlevania III - "Win a Trip to Dracula's Hometown"

Hey, do you guys know which version of the box came first, which is more rare, etc? On ebay it seems there are more copies of the "Trip" version.  Would there be a significant difference in value for a sealed copy of one vs the other?

Also, who won the trip??? image

I doubt something like that would change the value. I checked mine and there isn't one. Probably there was a time that it wasn't selling good, so they slapped a "win a trip" sticker on the boxes to get people to buy them? I'm still wondering if anyone ever won anything from the Arkanoid box where you could pick a vacation.
  • Yeah just like there's a Pizza Hut and non-Pizza Hut version of TMNT II. Most variant guys will grab both (as I did), but there's no huge rarity difference between the two to cause a price difference.

I don't have my copy in front of me, but IIRC its not a sticker but rather printed right on the box.    In which case the product codes should be able to tell us which came first.

Either way though, both are common.

  • it is printed on the box. definitely no sticker. the trip version came with an insert about the trip.

Haha yea I got my coupon from Pizza Hut that expired 20 years ago
  • ^ I redeemed mine back when it was valid! It was delicious!
  • You could also have redeemed it by sending in an cutout from a Castlevania III advertisement.

  • Yeah, I would really like to know who won that trip. Did they give them a whip when they got off the airplane? Were there bats and ghosts following them around as they went to their hotel? Did creepy stuff happen at night? I sure hope so.
  • I've never heard anything about the trip or a winner. As a matter of fact, the only rumor I have heard is that tension in Eastern Europe may have canceled the contest entirely at the time...
  • Haha there probably never was a winner. Marketing ploy. image lol

you could very well be right. The Bosnia and Herzegovina war started 1991/92ish.  Not too far from Romania... a wonder if a winner for the contest was ever crowned?
