The greedy bastard thread!

Anyone hoarding a bunch of copies of a certain title? Let's see the pics! Personally I'm not as into doubles as I used to be although occassionally I find myself bidding on stuff I already have   I don't have any pics to share (just moved! so everything is everywhere... argh.)

cheers

  • I don't like to hoard, but I will keep an extra copy or whatever for trade bait. I have something like five different copies of Zelda that are variants though... that's the most copies of a single game that I own right now.

  • I don't hoard either. I just keep what I need and sale / trade the rest. One day I do plan to make a whole wall of SMB/DH carts so I guess that will count as hoarding then image

  • Dr. Mario has got to be a close second for the most common cart, I have like almost 10 of them I think...
  • My most common is Captain Comic. I am trying to complete ALL the Color Dreams/Bunch Games/Wisdom Tree variants and getting pretty damn close to a CIB set of them all. SIDE NOTE I am going to hate it when a Blue Spiritual Warfare comes up as I am afraid Jason and I will go toe to toe on that one, got the box, book, and sleeve for it just waiting to fill her up. However getting enough color dreams/BG/WT sleeves for all the variants is tough. So I buy up all the damn Captain Comics I can just for the sleeves. Although I did just score 13 sleeves from a guy offline the other day which helped alot.

    Of Captain Comic I have...

    12 Blue Cart including (Blue/Blue and Blue/Grey)

    2 Blue upside down labels

    4 Black Cart (2 each Black/Black and Black/Grey)

I just traded one with book to a guy here in town for a version -4 CIB NES cleaning kit though so down from 13 Blue Carts... LOL!
  • Yah my poison is LOZ:

    1 Grey

    1 Gold 5-screw

1 Gold 3-screw round seal, with code, with "made in Japan"

1 Gold 3-screw round seal, no code, no "made in Japan"

1 Gold 3-screw round seal, no code, with "made in Japan"

    1 Gold 3-screw oval seal with (R)

1 Gold 3-screw oval seal with (TM)

I think there's more, someone mentioned (prolly NGD) that there's some 10 total variants for this...
  • Isn't there a variety of Color Dreams sleeves? I only have a few off them, but IIRC, some have different artwork on them. How do you know which ones are for which games?
  • From my buying I have determined the following but can be wrong:

The Grey sleeves with just the little color dreams logo were originally for Captain Comic.

The Blue Sleeves guy with sword that says Color Dreams on it was for the rest of the Color Dreams titles.

The Blue Sleeve guy with sowrd but no "CD" words on it was for Bunch Games.

The blue sleeves with ark and so forth was for the Wisdom Tree games.

I think towards the end of the run they could have put anything they had in with any game but the above is my interpretation from all the games I have bought/seen.
  • That has always been my understanding of them too, so I think you are correct. I need a bunch of them myself to help complete games.

  • Does 11 loose and 2 boxed Turtles count image ? I'm not hoarding or anything but that games is more common around here then SMB/Duck Hunt.
  • I have a case of sealed Stadium Events packed away somewhere. I've considered selling them off but I didn't want their legitimacy questioned, so they've been sitting around collecting dust since I found them at the flea market in 1995. Maybe I should open one... image

  • hey guys believe this or not>>

"Last summer i was at this game show in PA (dangevin was there). And this dude that owned this one game store had a stand set up. And he said about 3 or 4 years ago he was cleaning out a warehouse and found a box that had 3 Factory Sealed copies of stadium events in it. And he said he could have got them all for nothing, but left em cuz he thought the game was worthless."

Now thats all i heard of it? he actually told my friend that was with me, but he didnt tell me until we left and were on our way back (it was about a 2hr. drive)

So yea if he told me while i was there, i would have got more info on it, when, where, etc. But now its just a memory i guess lol. So who knows maybe the guy was full of crap, but he honestly didnt seem like a guy to do so. he actually had all his games everpriced lol But anyways if it was true, can you only imagine!? That would be insane.

But anyways just a little story i heard :-P
  • Could totally be stuff like that out there. This particular one may be an urban legend though. I heard almost the same story, believe or not.

A guy I know not too far from PA knew a guy with an old store. So my friend asks him if there are any sealed games, the guys says tons. My friend asks him, over the phone, to open up the first box and rattle off some titles in the box. The first three games in the box are supposedly sealed copies of stadium events. Cue my friend rabidly trying to meet up with this guy for the next six months with little or no contact back.

I think its BS. First three games in the first box? Not likely. And the fact that you've heard the story too albeit with a different twist just makes me think this is a tool who enjoys the look on people's faces when he says that story. In my friend's case, any former store owner who REALLY DOES have three sealed copies of stadium events probably doesn't know they are worth shit and wouldn't mention that title specifically. In your case, any current owner would have to be pretty stupid to leave them behind. And why wouldn't he follow up once he found out they were worth money? Nice little fairy tale but that its it, I think. Especially when you consider that game was only sold at Woolworth's.

There are some real gems waiting to be found, but there are also people who make stuff up. I've definitely seen both.
  • Yep I've been in the tabletop gaming business for a long time and virtually every week I get a new kid/teen/adult schmoe promises that they either have a Black Lotus, had a Black Lotus, threw away a Black Lotus, etc. etc. For those of you not familiar with Magic cards, how many people have promised that they threw away the Boardwalk for the McDonalds Monopoly game each year image I'm a supreme skeptic. Seeing is believing. Talk is cheap image

BTW Mark I'm not sure which dealer in particular, you only mentioned he was overpriced but if it was the guy you got the Mario's Time Machine for $5 from, that's the guys from the Reading microplay...they see a lot of games come and go and I'm sure they hear a lot of stories like this, just like I heard them when I was running a shop image Yes I know MTM $5 is not overpriced just incorrect image
  • This could be out there too: a case or palette of sealed (fully finished and packaged) Police Academy's by Tengen. I remember reading an interview with an X-Tengen employee eons ago where he mentioned (in passing) that the game was entirely finished, to the point that they were already boxed in shipping boxes and ready to ship to stores. One of these years...

Cool! And you're right, probably only a matter of time before those make it to market.
  • If the person sitting on them realizes people want them...
  • i have I think around 12 sealed copies of Dance Aerobics that I got from Wal Mart for $1 each a couple of years ago. I am going to start giving them away with any big deals I make.
  • I honestly just get rid of doubles as soon as possible. However, I have owned up to 3 Tagin Dragons, 5 Huge Insects, and 5 Color a Dinosaurs (all complete). Getting ready to hopefully take on another sealed Color a Dinosaur from a collector here real soon as well image
  • Ouch I REALLY need the Color A Dinosaur Box, 5 of them... sheesh... I just need one to complete my orphaned box/book. Thanks again for the book Dain. Now if only someone could help me with the box...
  • Hehe.....that was at one time ago. I eventually sold them off to collectors. In fact, that was one of the games in that package back in July. This sealed one will be the only copy I own now. I got rid of the one out of my collection for some unknown reason. Guess because I know I have extremely good luck finding them complete. LOL

  • one day I plan on hoarding stadium event carts..image

  • For a while I kept coming accross Double Dragon II: The Revenge.  I believe I had 8 loose copies at one point, now down to just 3 loose, and 1 with a booklet.
  • Hm...well...if two are variants, and one has sold and not yet shipped, does it count...? Because I have these:

  • goddamn, i love Caltron varients. Did you know they also have slightly different manuals.
