A particularly large Craigslist find, plus other finds throughout the day.

I had the day off today, and I was originally thinking of setting up to sell at the flea market in Dalton, GA, but plans changed, with rain in the forecast and with the opportunity to pay a former store owner a visit.  This former store owner, Scott, ran Lynx Games in Trenton, GA (roughly 50 or 55 miles' drive from where I live), for the ~2 months or so that it was open.  He didn't have a real clearance sale to get rid of his old stock before he folded it up, so he took it all home with him and listed it on Craigslist.  I e-mailed him, mainly to make sure that it was him, and if it was, I'd go down there to visit him.  Sure enough, it was, and he gave me his address (in Rising Fawn...another 15 miles south of Trenton...!) and told me to call him when I came.  So today, I got up early (some of you saw me in chat after 3 AM EDT last night...I was awake until about 3:50), at 7 AM, and my dad and I got ready and went to the flea market to shop.

About 2 1/2 hours later, my dad had 3 bags of fruit and a radar detector, and I had a game that Shane (my favorite video game seller there) *gave* me (Madden 07 for PSP...yeah, nothing special, lol image ).  Onward we went, first to McKay's in Chattanooga, where I scored a handful of strategy guides for a fair price (Dragon Quest Monsters:  Joker (DS; $7), Final Fantasy Chronicles (PS1; $8), Final Fantasy Origins (PS1; $5), Sword of Mana (GB Advance; $8), Golden Sun:  The Lost Age (GB Advance; $4), and Final Fantasy I & II:  Dawn of Souls (GB Advance; $9)), as well as Super Mario 64 (N64; $6.95) and 2 copies of Mario Kart 64 (N64; $8.45 each).  Those three N64 games would come in handy later on...

After that, we went to Toys 'R Us, on the rumor I heard where you buy Dragon Quest IX (DS) and you get a $15 gift card.  So I went in there, and lo and behold, there lay a sale bin, with a bunch of cheap-ish games in there.  I bought 2 copies each of Art of Fighting Anthology, Fatal Fury Battle Archives Volume 2, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, and King of Fighters XI, at $5 each.  Also, I found something else I didn't think I'd see at a TRU...Patapon 2 (PSP)...the UMD version o_O .  I had previously thought those were a GameStop exclusive.  Total there?  A ton...$87.xx after tax :/ .

Next stop was food...Burger King, on Lee Hwy., where my dad and I normally eat when we're in Chattanooga.  Four 4-piece chicken bits and a small root beer for me, a Whopper Jr. (no onions), fries, and a small diet Coke for my dad.  Eh, it's food...

After this, we stopped at America's Thrift Store, just down the road maybe 2 blocks or so from the Burger King...  That was failure, as usual...they very rarely have anything there worthwhile.

Now, about 12:40 or so PM, I figured I'd give Scott a call, and see if he was home and available for me to come by and buy stuff.  He was, so I put the address in the GPS...Lee Hwy. to Shallowford Rd., to I-75 south, to I-24 west, to I-59 south, and off at the GA state Hwy. 136 exit to go right into downtown Trenton.  Following 136, and up a mountain...and around three ridiculously tight hairpin curves (my dad, the best driver I know, nearly ran off the road twice)...and another mile or so, and there we were, at his house.

He and his buddy were playing Borderlands on his 360, his wife was on the laptop, and his daughter was playing.  He invited me in, and showed me the games.  As he was showing me the games, I noted a bit of seller's motivation kicking in...  In his CL ad, he'd listed the games, NES, Genesis, and N64, for $1 each, and Atari 2600, 5200, and Intellivision games for 50¢ each.  He had around 200 NES games, plus an additional 50-75 or so each of Genesis and N64 games, and about 100 Atari games.  As if it was instinct, he said, "You know what?  $200, take 'em all home with you."  That was all the cash I'd brought :/ ...  I was a bit hesitant to continue, but continue I did, into another room, and then to a closet, where he had systems...on top of systems...on top of systems...and accessories.  And SNES games, and more NES, Genesis, and N64 games, and PS1 games, and PS2 games...you get the idea...it's one of those closets, you open it for the first time and you hear a hallelujah chorus or something image .  Turns out, most of the games in that closet he was using to fuel his Amazon store (sucks, too...there were some good games in there...Harvest Moon and Dracula X SNES, for example), but they weren't off-limits for buying or trading purposes image .  So he and I were talking for a bit, I picked out a couple games of interest from the Amazon section (namely, Shenmue II (Dreamcast, complete...yes, PAL...he said it walked into his store the last day he was open o_O ), Breath of Fire III (PS1, complete), and Azure Dreams (GB Color, CIB)), and he said it again, "You know what?  Systems, accessories, and games together, $500."  Before he could catch himself, "I'll even throw in those three you picked out."  I wasn't even going to try and get him down in price...this was too good to pass up.  The search for an ATM was on, and about 30-40 minutes later (technical problems at the only two ATMs in the area), I was back, cash in hand, and we loaded up the old van.  I paid him, 25 $20 bills, and then we discussed a trade for those three N64 games.  I'd sold him a Super Metroid a while back, but it didn't work, so I gave him a Mario Kart 64 to remedy that.  The other two ended up trading for complete copies of Alundra 2 (PS1), Legend of Dragoon (PS1, original), and Star Ocean:  First Departure (PSP).  He then told me to leave him my phone number, so he could call me and we could go game hunting sometime.  All was definitely well in my world...my van was full, I still had money (I'd expected him to say more like $800 or $1000 for the lot), and the day was still somewhat young (2:30 PM or so).

Journeyed on, we did, to Rossville and Fort Oglethorpe...a couple thrift stores in the area, and we came up empty.  By then, with all the driving, it was getting a bit late, and so we went home, and arrived back at the stroke of 5 PM.  I was satisfied with how the day turned out, but I was too tired and physically drained to do much once I arrived home...I hit the couch and didn't move for anything for about an hour.  It took me an hour and 15 minutes to lug all the stuff in...and now to get pictures of it all o_O .  Of systems, there were 37, most of which came with cords and controllers, including the following:

1 Atari 7800
1 Magnavox Odyssey 3000
5 NES front-loaders
3 SNES model 1's
8 N64s (1 Pikachu Edition, 1 Ice Blue)
1 GB Color (Pikachu Edition)
1 GB Advance SP (red)
1 GB Micro (black)
9 fat PS1's (2 of which are of the -1001 variety)
1 PSone
2 Genesis model 1's
3 Genesis model 2's
1 Dreamcast

Of games and accessories...I'll count them and list them when I get the pictures ready...  This was a large find, indeed.  Off to take some pics, and then you'll see an update image .

  • I read it all. Bit confused - you get those games for $200 and the systems for $500 additional, or everything for $500? Either way it sounds like you made out like a bandit.
