image   I hope not!   After all I had to pay $450 for it.    Of course, jone will probably say I was silly back then for paying that much when I could have had a cib for $100 or so back then.   I guess it was a bad decision!

I never sell anything out of my collection no matter what the return, only dupes.  If I had two Donkey Kong Maths and if $450 represented a significant profit, yes I probably would have sold it.  My collection operates on cash flow, not hypothetical dollars I could have 5 or 10 years down the road.  Money today buys more games tomorrow that also have a chance of appreciating themselves...  That is, if you are solely looking at games as an investment.  I think of value as an upside and just collect games that I find interesting.
  • your philosophy is a good one, jone. you are always right and have the best assumptions of anyone on the site. i believe that everyone should follow in your footsteps and take after you. it would make this place much more enjoyable... for you.

I had to stop and reread the thread because this was the first post I read. I thought the end of the world was coming!

I do more or less the same thing - I only sell doubles if I feel like I am getting something better with the money.    No one has an issue with that nor could they reasonably do so.    It would just be a lot easier to have these discussions if you didn't bring up sealed when no one else did, made it personal with little jabs like "suckers" who pay more, and generally assume you know it all.    You're a good dude from what I can tell but I do find it a little funny that you completely discredit anything I might have to say about CIBs yet not longer ago put together a massive post on how you think there should be an alternative to VGA for sealed grading?    I mean smell the hyprocrisy dude!!   If you think people should only talk about what they collect then go delete that thread and STFU the next time anyone says anything about sealed!    image

That being said I still love ya bro imageimage     We'll just agree to disagree on this one.

Change "grading" to "authenticating" and I'd agree.  I have no interest in grading sealed games because admittedly I haven't touched enough.  My comment was to create a company that solely authenticates sealed games for a fraction of the cost.  Obviously there's a demand for a service like this because we get all kinds of "does this seal look legit?" questions on a routine basis.

But also look in the mirror if you think I come off as "knowing it all" and you do not.  You make comments like: "Oh - and that the second they have something worth keeping can't sell it fast enough.", so does that mean people might as well not even collect anything unless they are 10s?  Seriously, you make assumptions just as bad.  On MY scale, I do not pursue upgrades of anything above an 8.5, which is guess is about a 4 on your scale.

And by the way, I sold 550 NES CIBs back in August and rated them all numerically.  Had at least 40 unique buyers, several repeat and guess how many complained of my numerical grading or demanded refunds since I overclassified games?  Zero.  But some sealed guy is going to tell me I'm way off?  Whatever you say bud.

  • Whatever, it's pointless to say more. This can only end in war.
  • jone, your grading did NOT meet my standards, but for what i paid for the 2 i bought from you, i honestly didnt really care. your prices were fair.

and there is a difference between coming off as knowing it all in a cocky manner and coming off as knowing it all in all other manners. you have a cocky demeanor to you (as do i at times), but you are 99% of the time a cocky SOB in all your posts. hence the reason people cant stand reading through your know it all posts.

  • Yay for 100 posts that the majority have nothing to do with the OP's finds. If you wanted to argue over grading semantics, you should have made another thread (or bumped one of the other 20,000 where it was already discussed) instead of filling his find with negativity and arguing. Jesus.

According to the Jonas Decree that we should only discuss that which we collect, your opinions about authentication would be even less worthless than your opinions about grading, because authenticating is, if anything, the harder of the two skills to master.

Yay!   but you're right, its getting a little negative.    We should move on.
  • Sometimes it's fun to have a raging debate. Why, if it were up to me, we'd sit around all day and mass debate.

You know I'd usually stay out of the bashing realm on you Joner. You tend to get a long and drawn out butt pounding when one is coming to you. But... since it was brought up. I paid a significant amount more for the 10\10 mach rider in this sale, and it most definitely wasn't what it was stated as image No hard feelings as I recall that we talked about it via PM. I just wanted to point that out.

Seriously?  Dude, you expressed concern over the item and I offered you a FULL REFUND if you were not happy, or offered a partial refund in whatever amount you thought you overpaid.  You shrugged it off as no big deal and just expressed a bit of disappointment.

It is statements like this that are why I no longer sell to people on your end of the spectrum.  I'll gladly take less money for a game that I know will go to someone who appreciates it then more money from someone who is going to try and guilt trip me for selling something not as described.

Though for what it's worth, I'll never label ANYTHING as a 10 ever again in a public for sale thread.  9.75+ will the highest rating I ever give publicly even if the item looks like has never even been opened.

  • I sold Braveheart a really nice Mach Rider back near when I first joined NA. I think I called it a 9. I wonder what he actually thought it was. It was one of the nicest in the lot of BB games I was selling. Here's the thread: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=6&threadid=17696&keyword1=black box

That slalom I remember was super nice. I know my standards are probably stricter than back then. I think it's important to see that the more experienced collectors have a more stringent 10 point scale. Unlike me where I see a lot of crappy boxes on a regular basis, they probably see a lot of really nice boxes on a regular basis.

Even now I'm re-looking at the pictures of this DK Jr. Math thinking, uh, it's actually probably only a 7.5 in my mind. They're a little blurry for being such massive files. But there are more issues with it I see than a few days ago when I first looked. Calling it minty fresh is laughable though image
  • Yup, see I just looked back through my old thread. I am more picky now than back then. That Mach Rider is pretty hard pressed to be a 9 even if you ignore the sticker residue. It's got a crease along the top lid, yuck. Hmm, seems like even I've become pickier.

Those were sweet Black Boxes nonetheless! image

$450?  Ugh, I paid almost double that for on of my Minty CIB copies.  Although I do have 5 variations of DK Jr Math, 4 of which are CIB.  image
