flea market deal

nothin huge but i was happy to find cart onlies of excite bike with a manual, r.c. pro am, dr. mario, a tengen indiana jones and the temple of doom, rygar, and a zapper for $7 at the flea market this morning I was looking at a Kid Icarus in the box but he was claiming it was factory sealed and only wanted $20. it seemed to cheap to be real and his cellophane was flawless and looked like a reseal so i passed, i don't collect in the box  but i might go back and pick it up next weekend. what does an Icarus box go for with a cart and manual?

  • CIB I don't think that's a terrible price, and if the seal is legit all the better. I'm sure if you were to pick it up and take pictures some people would be able to tell you if it's authentic or not. Also, if it's legit and you want to open it to play, I'm working on a list of contents for factory sealed games, and I haven't added Kid Icarus to the list yet. There's a sticky thread in the Collector's Corner forum if it's of interest...I may not be able to tell if the seal is legit for you, but I guarantee if you post pics (or video...I can link you to my YouTube vids if it interests you, I opened Panic Restaurant and Stinger on video) of the opening process, I can tell if the contents are from a legit sealed game or a reseal. I've opened dozens myself, so I'm somewhat of an expert on that part of the process image
  • the guy who had it had about 15 nes sealed games and a handful of snes, he's there every weekend. i'll go back and buy a few of his cheaper items and take some pictures before and after i break the cellophane to see what you guys think about it, i know there's a guy name gary  that i met at the bar down the street from my apartment who lurks around the brewery and turned me onto this site, i'll drag him with me to check 'em out. i like to play my carts so i collect loose but if i can find something you guys are interested in i am more than willing to grab it and give it up for what i paid as long as it goes to a caring home. i'll get back to you next week when i get back out there.

  • Check for the horizontal line running through the back of the box. If it is that, it is probably legit. Even if its a reseal, grab that Kid Icarus anyway. $20 is a pretty good price on it, especially if its minty.
  • it should be centered down the back of the box correct?? a couple i looked at were sealed along the side which didn't look right to me, i need to read up on my authenticity skills..
  • not bad finds! I've seen nice cib kid Ic's go for $50

There's a back issue of the e-zine (one of the first ones, check Vol.1, think issue 3 or 4 but might be later) that Bronty wrote about seal types on specific games.  Some games didn't have the back seal, although they were mainly late release Acclaim games, or unlicensed games.  Still, the horizontal seam on the back usually means it's legit (not always though), but not having it doesn't make the seal automatically not legit.  Dig up that article, it's a good read.  And even if they're not legit, you'll at least have nice boxed games, and people here would gladly buy up the boxes and manuals you get, especially if they're mint.
  • Yeah, I'd grab that for that price even if there was no seal. Until this summer slump that's going on, that game was tough to find for double that CIB. I put together a full black box collection (& silver) and that was the last one I had to track down!! image
  • Flea markets in missouri? unheard of! haha. Im too far away, but it would be nice to know where any are in missouri. The only one I know of is Rutledge, and its garbage now. Also, if you dont want the kid icarus, and its in nice shape, I would LOVE to upgrade mine image Maybe we could meet up sometime in STL next time i pass through. Nice scores on the other games!
  • 20 for a Kid Icarus CIB doesn't sound too bad.
