Craig's List near-super score

I got on my local Craig's List this morning to find an add that was pretty much jaw-dropping. This dude was unloading his whole collection of games for $5 each, including stuff like Bubble Bobble 2, Dragon Warrior 3 & 4, several Mega Man games, and Chrono Trigger for SNES, among others.

I went to the ATM and withdrew a lot of cash. Unfortunately, by the time I got there about 3.5 hours after the ad was posted, all the really good stuff was already gone. He still gave me the games below for $15...

Final Fantasy
Kirby's Adventure
Double Dragon 3
Simpsons: Bart vs. the World
Double Dragon 3 (Genesis)

Not really too bad, but not a super-score... which this almost was. I mean, Bubble Bobble 2 for $5!?!?!

....seriously?!

Lessons learned:
1) There is good stuff on Craig's List
2) You must act immediately to get said good stuff

I don't even check Craig's List regularly, but you can bet I'm going to start after this.

  • Nice near perfect find! If you have an Android phone, you can get the Craigslist widget, that's what I have. It notifies you everytime something is posted within whatever you put on. Like, you can put one NES and it will notify you when someone posts up something that has NES in it.
  • Yeah with amazing finds you got to be fast as hell. Usually when they post a few high dollar games in their listing, you got less than an hour to contact them and it's best to pick the stuff up that night. If you don't act fast, you'll be dealing with a ton of competition and sometimes people ruin it by letting the seller know the values of said rare games.
  • Damn! I woulda left work for that haul! Worth more than a days work, that's for sure.
  • Wow, I don't even know what I would've done if I saw that.
  • I don't even bother with craigslist anymore. Too many losers sitting on there all day, if anything good comes up at all it is gone within the first hour. Anyways, congrats on the games you did end up getting.

I agree. It's ridiculously competitive. Anytime anyone says they'll hold something, you mine-as-well deflate now and feel the disappointment. It's the worst when you stumble upon something great 10-20 mins after it's posted and you keep waiting for that e-mail from the person that never comes
  • I missed out on a lot of complete SNES games including Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, and Chrono Trigger, all in all, it was worth over $150, and the guy wanted $70. Everything was in great condition. I e-mailed him 10 minutes after he posted it. Apparently I was still 5 minutes too late. CL is just a big bag of disappointment, but I have gotten a few scores of mostly commons, toasters, and a Power Glove, so it can be good from time to time to add to a collection if you need commons.

  • I've had good finds on there, including the sign in my pic to the left, but mostly it's annoying as hell as a few of you state, and I seldom log in anymore. However, once I was trying to dump off some common PS3 games and said I'd take SNES trades, thinking I'd get like DKC, Mario Kart, etc
  • Yup craigslist is a total score. I used it to nearly double my piddly NES collection I had (long story) up to into the 60s over the weekend. One lot for $70 was a system, 4 game pads, zapper, wires, and 15 games which included stuff like Bubble Bobble w/book, Super C, Final Fantasy, boxed up Tetris and Paperboy, 3D World Runner, Rollerball and more. A second lot I got another 14 games for $5/pc on average (they were $3-10 a pop) and it was decent stuff too. Swap meets also should never been underestimated for cool stuff as this weekend I got 7 more titles (one in a battered box - Baseball) for 19.
  • Yeah, I totally should have left work as soon as I saw the ad. Lesson learned. I'm also now watching Craig's List like a hawk. Trust me, I'm swooping in on the next one.
  • Nice, yeah I almost got a really good deal on craigslist a few years ago. Some guy had a whole bunch of CIBs including Stack Up, Donkey Kong Jr Math, Arkanoid, and some others I believe for 50 bucks total. I emailed the guy and he said a guy is on his way to pick them up already, but if he doesn't come, you can buy them. The guy ended up coming and scored some nice stuff.
  • Harvest moon PS1 for $5? sweet deal man, couldn't find it ANYWHERE for less then $50 so i broke down and got the local retro gaming store to get one in for me, cost me $60 but it is well worth it, awesome game!
  • Saw the ad too bad the guy wouldnt ship i saw it about an hour after it was posted and he hadn't sold anything yet. the guy was a collector just trying to get rid of everything
  • Perhaps he was scouting the Craigslist area to see how many collectors he's competing against?
