Top of the crop retro games music covers

I know there are tons of covers of many "famous" music tracks (Bubble Man song, for example). I want this thread to be about the most original and/or best performance of any old game music track you want us to hear.

I'll start putting this fantastic version of Faxanadu's first town song (Eolis):

  • im at work so i can't link to youtube

    chris kline - Jungle jam

kurikinton fox - anything's good especially the final fantasy stuff
  • that piece from faxanadu is pretty amazing. at first i thought only the flute is going to play all the way image. Then the bass starts. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the link.

I've added this one on the other thread. I think it's worth mentioning it again. This is the best smb2 cover i've found so far.

  • Anything by The Entertainment System or the Adventures of Duane and BrandO, like the Mega Man II rap.
  • I really like The Advantage. Their cover of Wicked Child from Castlevania is great. And speaking of Faxanadu, this is an awesome guitar cover of the password screen music:
  • Year 200x is really good metal band cover for nes games
  • This:

Also, anything by Hyadain is great (although I don't know if it fits this thread).
  • To revive this topic: the great Megadeth rendition of Duke Nukem's 3D main theme.

One that probably many of you don't know, a remix of a song from Ken's Labyrinth. This was a Wolfenstein 3d clone with a lot of personality, by Ken Silverman, the creator of the Build engine (Duke Nukem 3d).

Hah, I didn't check this one before... Kennyken has some good stuff, but sometimes he doesn't perform as well... this one in particular is nice!

I also like his Goonies cover (though it's more like a Cindy Lauper cover, than a VG song), and this:

This Ninja Gaiden 2 guitar cover kicks ass :

  • sup dudes, i write video game music under the name 'temp sound solutions'..our band is in the process of finishing an 11th video game cover cd, entitled 'Now Youre Playing With Powar 9 1/2: You Go Back To The Beginning'. the reason this is the 11th album is because now youre playing with powar 6 is a 2cd album, and we're not ready to pop the big 'tenth album', a full studio album yet.

if you go to http://www.tempsoundsolutions.com or search for 'temp sound solutions' on youtube, you can find a lot of stuff that we've done. theres audio samples for each of the NYPWP albums on our webpage if you're down and want to hear some more stuff, we've probably done in the area of 600 songs at this point.

i work with a lot of other dudes doing stuff outside of my band as well, since there was a faxanadu in the first post, i figure i will put this faxanadu cover here as well, check it out!

Tons of awesome stuff there. It's a competition, so obviously the lower ranked stuff might be rougher around the edges. Check out anything from housethegrate, Hope Fails, ScaredSim, Ryan8bit, Xmark, Prince of Darkness... just to name a few, because there is so much more good stuff! Explore, check it out!

  • cool SMB2 jazzy rendition

EDIT: I realize now this was posted by Firamir in the second post, sorry!
  • ARMCANNON does some pretty kickass covers.

Here's their take on Boomer (Esiason) Kuwanger:

I also really, really love Beatdrop's take on "Keep It Short" from Earthbound, as heard on OCRemix's Bound Together album.

  • we released now youre playing with powar 9 1/2. theres samples from some of the songs up there if anybody wants to hear. i might put some more up soon.
  • Muda kingdom rock mix:

God Mario Land 2 was a *fantastic* game!
  • Always thought this was a great interpretation of the Bloody Tears theme.

Love this cover for the FF7 Battle music

I didn't check it before, but I liked those faxanadu covers! I liked your Snow Brothers cover most from your NYPWP albums, probably because it's the only game I own and play from the ones you have there image .

And as I realized that I revived this thread with a song that was already posted, I'll leave this final fantasy 7 covers from a very talented guy.

    Tifa´s theme

    Oppressed people

    Ahead on our way

  • Vomitron - Contra (All Levels) Rock-Metal Remix

  • Orchestrated themes of several games, from Pong to Dragon's Lair. I like the Ghosts and Goblins one. Or was it Ghouls and Ghosts?

    More Faxanadu goodness:

At the middle you can start hearing the church theme with a real church organ. Really good!
  • Castlevania orchestral (and apparently, official) awesomeness

  • we put up a bandcamp if you wanna check it, it's got all of the video game cover albums from the 5th one up to the most recent one. dig in!

    http://tempsoundsolutions.bandcamp.com

  • nice nice, I'm liking it. I love the SMW cave theme.
  • ^^Simply amazing. I order you, who may be reading this, to listen to 0xero0's pick. You will get emotional.
  • Wow, that Faxanadu cover in the OP is great.

One of my favorite video game cover albums is Xoc's 'What's Pink and Sucks?'

    http://www.xocmusic.com/kirby/

It's a cover of every song from the Kirby's Adventure soundtrack. It has an organic quality to the sound that really stands out to me... I also like the bright and diverse instrumentation. Some tracks sound like a little quartet doing an elegant tune, while others are rugged and kind of punk. And it all works very cohesively. I would love for a new Kirby game to use arrangements like these!

He also did Super Mario World and Gremlins 2 albums like this.

  • Megaman 3

This guy is super talented. Im liking every video he has made. Another one of my favorite from him is the Vega theme he played with his friend. Truly amazing.
  • Want to share my favorite song from King of Fighters, In Spite of One's Age, arranged. This one's the song of Takuma, Heidern and Saysiuu.

  • This one isn't my favorite cover, but it's one I discovered recently that I really enjoy. It's a cover of my favorite DKC2 track, Kannon's Klaim. Quite different from the original but I really like it.
