Flea Market Treasure

I've always had a modest NES collection but I finally decided to try and work on completing it(for the most part).

So reading online I hit a couple of places like mom and pop shops. Some pawn shops. I did the goodwill route but found nothing but old copies of Madden games.

I decided to check out a local flea market where I knew someone sold a fair amout of NES games. Well I hit a total jackpot because this person had alot of the AVG games and really didn't know what they had on their hands.

I figured they probably didn't make a killing on the older NES carts because they were plentifull and very low marked. So I had 20 dollars cash on me and said I'd take 5 games for 20 if they would have it. Of course when they heard 20 dollars they were all over it.

I ended up walking away with: The Last Star Fighter, Rad Racket II, Puzzle, Double Strike, and Castlevania(just because I was missing it). They were all cartridges but in decent shape.

I told them I liked the "odd" NES games. They said they had more in storage and would begin to bring them to the flea market next week. The one woman spoke of a 15 in 1 multicartridge. I"m hoping against hope its that AVG multi one.

  • Rad Racket II is a pretty tough one to find, congrats
  • Nice finds.. Good luck next week.
  • I'm pretty new to this collecting. I've had alot of various games and I've got alot of systems. They had another AVG game Trolls that I couldn't convince them to throw in. Of course I didn't stumble upon NA until the middle of this week so it would have helped to know the rarity. I find that DigitPress #'s seem off to me somehow..
  • download latest ezine here, http://www.nintendoage.com/index.cfm

it contains a price guide that is very helpful.
  • Thanks. I just exported my collection to a checklist so I can keep it in my wallet. The price guide will be awesome too for my insurance. I had to up my home insurance to keep up with my games! lol
  • Damn exceptional luck there. I do the same thing and troll the local craigslist in the northern part of my county (as it's huge and far enough the gas kills the savings.) Two weeks ago I got 7 nes games for $19, nothing really special just common stuff for the most part but they were great things like Adventure Island, (beat to shit) Baseball box w/game in it, Golgo13 and some others. Fleamarket/swapmeets kick ass as 95% of them aren't game collectors and have no clue so you can get boxed or not games for like 2.50, 3, 5 bucks maybe 10 at worst if it's all pretty in the box. I still regret about a year and a half ago not grabbing a very pretty copy of Contra for $3 at the Shelbyville KY flea market when I lived out that way.

Found a nice indoor flea market on Craigslist and was half expecting it to be either all sports games or overpriced.

But I think I did well for 25 dollars according to the NA price guide plus the database.

    Day Dreaming Davey

    Robocop

    Wall Street Kid

    F-15 City War

    Athletic World

    The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles

    Vice Project Doom

The guy was pretty good at negotiating and I think he knew his prices for the most part. But he was overcharging for odder type games like SMB type stuff
  • Very nice, hope they pull something out for ya!
  • I always feel bad though because I don't want to come off as a dick and I'm not looking to make a billion dollars. I just want to collect it ya know? Its not like if I ever did get a Stadium Events or Nintendo WC I'd sell it for money. its a personal thing.
  • Neat I'd love to find an indoor flea around here, was an excellent set of them in kentucky in the county east and the one south of me too.
  • I can't wait to go back to this one because this guy literally had alot of games really cheaply marked. 2,3,4 dollars a cartridge. The one I paid the most for was the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles(8 loose).

I can't say I love going to these flea markets but I do get to see the cartridge conditions first hand versus reading an amazon seller description etc.
  • Yeah I don't want to go to the swap meet/flea market either as there's a lot of weirdos, damn spanish music pirate cds being blared hard core, and a lot of rednecky crap thrown out on tables and tarps. But around that there are good vendors who just find things and resell them, or those with legit little businesses going and you can luck into some goodies. I tend to limit myself when I go taking usually $40 with me and it works pretty well.
  • Nice! I just started going to fleas and swap meets not long ago. It is a weird experience at first since some of the people

look like they time traveled in from another era, but it has been a goldmine for me image

I actually go right when they open & are setting up, which is another entirely different experience

because it's 6am and pitch black with people walking around with flashlights!
