Most investigative work to acquire something for your collection?

What is the most work you put into finding and acquiring something you were looking for?

I am just asking because I have ended up searching the depths of all kinds of random forums, gaming related and non-gaming related to find some standees and soundtracks I was looking for.

The most work I did was a Google search that lead me to a motorcycle site that lead me to a user who took a picture of a soundtrack that belonged to someone he knew. I sent the user who took the picture a PM and he sent me the email of the guy who owned the soundtrack. I then sent that guy an email and the soundtrack belonged to his brother that lived in another state from him. He got a hold of his brother and I bought it from him! It was quiet epic!

  • The most effort that I've ever put into finding something would have to be the Gray Majora's Mask NFR cart that I recently found.

I looked for this for a solid year and a half (the second longest I've ever searched for a specific game).  I hunted down all the owners that I could find and offered rediculous sums of money for their copy.  I scoured ebay auctions, other sites, and the forums.  Someone told me about one that was at a game store in Canada with half the label torn off, didn't ever get that one, every time I offered the guy his asking price, he'd up it again.  Then there was another one that some dude out in Cali found.  For whatever reason, that dude and I didn't get along...I think that ars2pd wound up with that copy.  Then finally a guy on NA here posted one and I jumped all over it.  I out bid a few people and paid a little more than I wanted, but I'm so happy I'm done searching for it, it was worth it.  It completed my N64 NFR set.

Oh, and Deniz still sucks.  image

  • Haha! Awesome story!
  • yeah as far as I know the game store still has that game, oh well your copy is much better then their copy is anyways
  • what's the price on the zelda cart if you don't mind me asking?
  • I spent a lot of work trying to get some unreleased stuff from Color Dreams; similar to what NGD did, but this was before anyone had said anything about it. It wasn't till NGD posted his haul in the Nagezine that I realized someone else was doing the same thing I was doing. Unfortunately for me, I didn't have much money at the time, so I didn't make out with as much as I wanted to.
  • A few of my prototypes took me over a year of negotiations before sealing the deal.
  • Definitely my Stadium Events....which MRN has now. But it was fun finally getting it.
  • I'd say my prototypes and rare promotional items. I've had to do quite a bit of research and tracking down to get some of that stuff.

You name reminded me of a couple other games i was happy to get. When I got my Mr. Gimmick and Rodland, I was pumped. Granted, I overpaid out the A for them in the long run, but I was excited. I still have the Rodland...(for sale if interested. image )
  • I put about two years worth of effort into searching for (and then acquiring)the Authorized Service Center items in my collection. It was pretty fun, I have a binder I put together documenting the whole experience.
  • I haven't really had that much of a hard time finding any specific game as of yet, but i'm sure i'll run into a time eventually.
