To all the members bashing MLG lately
$700k is a great reason to compete. The story is linked below.

$128.6 million is a good reason to play the lottery too.

I don't understand the title of this thread in relation to the link.
I stick by it, too. It's stupid and it will always be stupid. The majority of the folks involved with it are idiots, and the idea of it gives my favorite hobby a bad name.
So some kids who are good at 1 game get to share millions of dollars worth of prizes and cash? Who cares? They still suck.
Ever wonder why those of us who've actually been gaming since the start want nothing to do with it? It's like Dennis said; "It has nothing to do with videogaming."
I have a pretty good job and make a decent amount, but I assume that a female porn star probably makes more. I'm alright with that since I don't have to take a dick in the ass in order to get my paycheck.
$700k is a great reason to compete.
With the absolute best winners taking home a max of ~$15k, I see it as a great reason to get an education
Seems to me like he was bashing on them pretty good himself. I think Joe is a cool guy, I'm just don't see myself watching it like professional sports which they tend to replicate right down to their logo. Retro's the 1 percent though.
Ya actually 99% of them are assfucks i agree with that. Most are 15 year old morbid fat kids that try as hard as they can because its all they know. I barely play anymore, my teams consist of my real life friends so its more of a hang out with friends thing. Its really fun to run strategies and play competitively its alot more intense then pub matches on cod.
I thought we all struck a compromise of something along the lines of:
Yeah, it's pretty lame and most players are douches, but it's still cool in some aspects.
Why would you hate on someone that can make some money based on doing something that they love? With stupid troll responses like "Who cares, they still stuck", you can just smell the jealousy and hatred.
In this thread, a bunch of jealous people that aren't good enough to game for money.
That sounds pretty troll-like to me.
Pot, Kettle, I'd like you to meet jonebone.
It has nothing to do with skill level. It has to do with videogaming and its association to it. If you aren't able to at least pull that tidbit of info from this purposely fight-starting thread, then perhaps you should mozy on over to another one.

If you troll, don't cry when it is returned in your face.
Your whole rationale for it being "stupid" is that you "have a good job and make a decent amount". Yet the point has already been made that the majority of these MLG guys are your 15 year old 60+ hour a week gamers. So I guess you were also making 15K a year as a teenager, doing something as cool as playing video games?
Most teens can't gross that in a year flipping burgers at a dead-end job, let alone doing something that would make them the envy of their peers.
There's no reason to hate on someone doing something they love other than jealousy. Don't be so bitter.

I gather that most of the dislike comes from a general unpleasant "better than you" attitude that emanates from the MLG guys. I honestly don't know anything about it, though, so I'm not going to render an opinion on what their attitudes may, or may not be.
But from the standpoint of a casual observer, I can see that being bothered by the attitudes of a community are wholly different than being jealous of what those people are doing.

Nice backpedal.
When did I say any that my job was my rationale? Its stupidity has nothing to do with my job. You're not making any sense. My rationale (not that it should matter to you) is that (again, like I said before) in my opinion it gives videogaming an ugly face.
Notice that there was no MLG before gaming became "hip". It will die out just as soon as it's not cool anymore. So there's your real dead-end job. I bet you those burger joints will still be around though. Who knows, you might make manager by then.
You're right about it not being justifiable to hate on someone for doing something they love. I don't hate them for that. I hate them for exploiting something that I love. I'm embarrassed to even tell anyone out there in real life that I'm into video-gaming nowadays. Now I just pretend uninterested in order to avoid some obligatory Halo/Madden/Call of Duty discussion. It didn't used to be that way.
Call it being bitter if you will. That's when I decided to bring all my stuff out of storage and create my own game room; where I can relax and enjoy gaming the way I want to with no outside interference. Consider it my way of mourning.
Who cares about their attitudes? You get that with every profession.
It makes gamers look bad? Who cares? We all play games to have fun, not to look good.
I say, if you can make money at age 15 playing video games, more power to you. You can get trapped and forget that you should be focusing on education, but again, who cares? It's their life.
I dont understand the hatred either. Who gives a shit if someone makes money playing games? It has nothing to do with you. Who gives a rats ass how someone makes their living, as long as they're not harming anybody else in the process.

I like how you don't seem to care about anything except that other people care about what you don't care about.

zzz....
As odd as that post was, it was grammatically correct, which I thought was funny.

There was no Xbox before gaming became "hip", so I guess it'll die out too right? You're really sounding more and more bitter with each response. Also, I remember spurts of playing games for 50-60 hours a week as a kid, yet I got my college degree and cushy job. I doubt that the majority of these MLG guys are going to quit their entire career / school / life simply to pursue gaming all along the way.

But why do you feel your opinion is right? What if I'm a current gen gamer and say that I hate retro gamers for ruining video games? After all, if every single person were a retro gamer only, there'd be no current generation of games and video games would have been long forgotten as a fleeting fad. Of course I would never make that claim because I realize the common denominator is video games, and we all like different variations of the same thing. If anything, MLG gamers are drawing more attention to video games and furthering the hobby, not exploiting it.
I have no problem with what your saying as long as you acknowledge that you're bitter and simply want to rant with your opinion. But when you act delusional, thinking that you're right and we're all wrong, you got a problem.
Sorry about that last one. Guess I need to dumb down the jokes a bit more.

No need to dumb down your jokes, maybe try adding a little bit of funny to the next one.
But why do you feel your opinion is right?
I never claimed that it was. It's just my opinion. Why do you feel like I owe you any sort of explanation even if I did think it was?
How could you, even in jest, liken the situation to a current gen gamer who blames the decline of video games on retro games? How's that even possible? You're aware that without retro games, current gen games and gamers wouldn't exist right?
I really like NA and have met some really great people so far in my stint here, but the one complaint I have is that it seems like it's also full of apologists and cause-heads; needlessly defending and barring anyone else from speaking their minds without some sort of ridiculous "holier than thou" white-knighting over causes that really have nothing to do with them.
Last time I checked, this was a forum. A forum is a place to promote discussion, not to persecute it.

Actual apologists do promote discussion, by offering a clear counterpoint that, ideally, is divorced from personal opinion.
Like you said the idea of a forum is to promote discussion, not have a circle-jerk of entirely like-minded individuals.
But yeah, I thought all the MLG drama was resolved in that other thread.
If it were within my power, I probably would've locked this hours ago...
As far as MLG giving a bad name to gaming, I don't really agree. I can think of a dozen or two reasons far worse than a bunch of dudes playing for cash and fame. Why aren't we attacking the more serious reasons? (like addiction, violence, or rewiring of our youth's minds)
I'm all for it for the record. Anything that brings attention to competitive gaming is a good thing. Take it from me, once you've played a game that you have mastered with everything on the line.... you'll never go back. For video games, it doesn't get any better than that.
I'd think getting serviced while playing your favorite game could be better than that, depending of the talents of the woman involved.

Lol i'd have to agree with arch on that one.
