I know everyone loves Lil' Samson as their Mega Man clone.....

The Krion Conquest?

Played this for a bit on the train ride home the other day and I was impressed with the initial outing. It was only about half way through the first level but still I didn't think it was too bad aside from being a more of a rip off that normal, I'd say borderline shameless.

Some things I liked were the whole screen effect weapons, and jumping on broomstix, but conversely I couldn't help but be bothered by the blatant copying. Those spring enemies seemed all too familiar, even if their placement and AI was pretty odd.

Anyways, what I want to get at is other opinions on this game before I go any further, not because it would take a lot of time but rather because I have a lot of things to play right now.

  • Ive never really thought of Little Samson as a megaman clone, but krion conquest on the other hand is totally a shameless ripoff, no doubt.
  • Krion Conquest isn't too bad. I haven't gotten too far in it because I find it to be fairly difficult. But difficulty aside, I enjoy the game. It's worth playing.
  • What about Shatterhand? That's another great Mega Man based game that's pretty underrated. Also, seen Krion Conquest on one of BigAl2K6's old game reviews on Youtube, and the game almost is the same as Mega Man as far as the sprites, music, everything, but it does look sweet.
  • I've never played Krion Conquest, Little Samson or Shatterhand. However, Power Blade reminds me of Mega Man image
  • Only thing that would make me connect Power Blade with Mega Man is the stage select.
  • krion conquest is a good game. definitely one of the best on the system.

Yeah I wouldn't call them clones by any means but something about the game play feels similar (to me at least).
  • I didn't understand it either, maybe I didn't play much but PowerBlade didn't feel very Mega Man to me either.

I haven't played it a lot either, so maybe I just got a weird first impression. image

Power Blade is no more like Mega Man than Batman is.
  • That's what I thought, but I've had a good many say it's like Mega Man and I don't see it.

Well, you have a guy that can run and shoot, and fall into pits and die, I guess...

I can think of at least 20 or 30 games more similar to Mega Man than Powerblade is, though...

I'm pretty sure it's the running/shooting/platforming and the stage select. Not that any of that is unique to those two games or anything...
  • I remember getting Krion Conquest for Christmas. I still have it actually. It is a great game and is very similar to mega man.

8-Eyes is totally shameless. Platforming, stage select, boss weaknesses, animal side kick. Then it goes and rips off Castlevania too! Nah just kidding. I don't see the similarity in any of these games. They all feel totally different to me, with the exception of Krion / Mega Man.
  • Of course it is a shameless rip off but I enjoy nonetheless. Totally worth your time and a play through.
  • I love the Krion Conquest! I actually keep it grouped together with my Mega Man games. My main complaint with it is its cheap ass difficulty. I've only ever managed to beat it once and that was enough for me. I still like to pick it up and play it now and again though.
  • I haven't played Krion Conquest before but it's definitely going on my buy list. Always glad to hear about hidden gems I need to pick up.
  • And then I single handedly drive the price of the game up.
  • Krion Conquest is pretty awesome, but an even better clone is Shock Man from the Turbo Grafx-16. It plays a lot like Mega Man X.
  • Shock Man looks really fun!

Is it available on Wii virtual console now?

I havn't played Krion Conquest. Is it really that hard, like for example Battletoads?
  • Whomp 'em is more of a Megaman clone than both LS and KC. It's a good game to boot.

I think LS is more in the vein of Uforia and Wonderboy III in that you have the ability to change to different characters with varying abilities. Whomp 'em has the switchable weapons that are obtained through various boss battles. It's WAY more similar.
  • Whomp Em is another KICK ASS game!

That last level with the clouds though... I still havent beaten the game I think....
  • The original version of The Krion Conquest (Magical Kids Doropie) has been fan-translated and is much better than the US version, and also the same version of it that I completed. Thus, I highly reccomend the original with the translation patch, as it restores all the butchered elements of the original, such as the lack of a continue, inbetween storyline, and graphical changes/censorship. Anyways, it was ported in recent years to mobile phones with extra difficulties available, so thankfully it hasn't been forgotten. And yes, I love this game!
