Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary Party At Nintendo World

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone from Nintendo Age hit up the Super Mario Bros. 25th Anniversary Celebration at Nintendo World.  The event was a ton of fun, but the store was way to packed.  I thought some people here might be interested in the coverage I did of the event for a site I'm writing for.

If you guys have any questions be sure to shoot them my way.  I'll answer to the best of my ability!

  • The guy that did the speedrun of SMB1 at the party, Andrew Gardikis, is actually a friend of mine image.
  • Awesome. I couldn't even get close to that area as the store was so packed. I'm sorry I had to write an article about him failing, my editors made me. I know it's hard to play under pressure. Also I have no idea if he had even played the game much leading up to the event which I know could be tough.

Yeah he was a bit disappointing about not being able to finish in the second run he did (he did like a 5:21 run in the store before Miyamoto arrived, which is also very "meh" he claimed).

  • Yeah I think I was in that part of the store when that happened. I've seen Miyamoto many times and he has this presence about him. Maybe it's because I know if it weren't for that man I probably wouldn't even care about games. He's changed my life severely.
  • Oh and I totally forgot to mention, Andrew said the TV he was playing one had bad input lag. He didn't mention it to anyone at the event but he told us when he got back from NYC.
  • Yeah that can put a damper on anything. I hate TVs that lag so much. So many people I know just tell me there is no lag on their TV's, but when I sit down on them I can tell. The average person just can't tell but it drives me insane.
  • Oh wow... I hope he hasn't seen that toilet pic. A bit harsh don't you think lol?

  • I didn't make that picture. I had another one but one of the higher editors put that up. image
  • Hey, thanks so much for the coverage. I really wish I had been able to be there, meeting Miyamoto and Reggie would have been awesome.

That's too bad about Andrew Gardikis. He's the guy who has the 5:00 record time, and I've watched his video several times for reference. Lag is terrible for playing any video game, especially for attempting a speedrun of Super Mario Bros. But it must have been cool for him to meet Miyamoto though image

It seems like playing SMB is the game where lag is most noticeable.

  • Awesome of you to put this up, thanks!
  • Yeah I went, and it was an amazing event. Getting to actually see Miyamoto is just the biggest highlight of my life.
