Decisions, decisions
Alright, so I've made it to Pure Land in Secret of Mana, which means I'm only a matter of hours away from beating it. Don't worry guys and gals, it won't be beaten in the next 2 hours, so this poll will go until I finish the game (which could be next weekend!). Once the game has been completed, I'll put it aside to level everything up to it's fullest (weapons to level 8, magic for both the girl and sprite to level 8, level 99 for everyone) when I take a break from the next game.
Since Mana was chosen this past week, I'm replacing it with a non-rpg game. Super Mario All Stars + Mario World. I love me some Mario. Anyway, I figured since all of the games in the previous poll were RPG's, I'd toss in a non-RPG in the place of the RPG I'm about to finish.
If Mario All Stars + Mario World is chosen, I will go through each game in it's entirety (no warp zones) until each one is completed (Mario 1, 2, 3, Lost Levels and Mario World with all 96 exits/stars).
Thanks again everyone!

many good choices but i have to go with FF III as it's one of my all time favorites. Honorable mention goes to Secret of Mana and if you haven't played Chrono Trigger, play that.
I don't have the physical cart, so I left that one out. I beat it through emulation a week or 2 ago, but didn't feel the same as playing it on the actual hardware.
This might've been the shorted poll ever. I voted FF3.
It was short, I apologize for that. My next one will go much longer. I wanted to play a game and couldn't decide, and I finished the other game I was playing last night and I thought of this whole vote idea this morning. I'll be sure to start the next one when I'm at the end of Secret of Mana.
I just beat Secret of Mana in Spring this year, first time playing it ever. It was very "meh" to me, I'd give it a 7.5 or 8 out of 10. However, I will admit that the end of the game is the saving grace... difficulty really picks up, bosses are tougher, music intensifies, really just a great experience.
But the entire middle of the game is nothing special, characters get hung up on environment objects all the time, and charged weapons make battles easy. Also a ton of sprite re-uses for bosses really retract from the overall experience.
I've never really understood the fascination with Secret of Mana, either. Of course, I've always been a turn-based RPG guy, so it was never my cup of tea in the first place. Nevertheless, I knew this guy in high school who was crazy about it and would pester me almost every day about giving him my copy.
I think what I disliked most about it is having to buff up your magic spells. I mean, it's bad enough that I have to grind for EXP in these games, now you want me to grind for magic too?!
I think the magic buffing is a nice feature. Instead of getting something like Fire, Fira, then Firaga, you just build up the magic (which takes next to no time), and you keep a short selection of magics.
jonebone: I rarely use weapon powerups. Sure, I build up each weapon to it's max, but I rarely use the power attacks. I usually just spam magic and don't give the bosses a chance to attack anyway
