Did anyone pick up the new Splatterhouse?

I'm looking for some opinions on the new Splatterhouse that came out today.  Did anyone pick it up?

  • Im going to wait for some reviews, this seems like a game that might suck but might be sweet. Not to sure yet 60$ is alot right now for me
  • I would be more hopped on it if they didn't use a bad "metal" soundtrack for it. Gameplay wise it looks great though.
  • To me it just looks like a bad Dante's Inferno. But to each his own. image
  • I'm telling you guys, the 3 unlockable uncut games as a bonus feature make me want it, this whole new game thing is simply a bonus and the gameplay looks pretty good.
  • I won't pay $60 for it, a year ago it was on my radar but after Scamco axed some teams, restarted this and that, it was in development hell and rarely does a game that ends up there and still hits the market turns out to be an 8 or higher level quality average title. There's a reason turds get laid to rest, and why those that refuse to die don't tend to score well at all.
  • I was pretty skeptical about it, but I've been getting texts all day from friends telling me how awesome it is. I may have to cave and pick it up this weekend. It's still cheaper than buying all 3 originals.
  • What info are you looking for in regards to 999?
  • I want to, but probably won't.

Yeah, they could've done better. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard about Goatwhore being on it, and it gave me hopes...but aside from that, High on Fire, and Mastodon...meh. Seriously, Five Finger Death Punch?

Oh, shit. Just noticed Terrorizer on there. That's kinda cool.
  • ^^Terrorizer is on there? Hmm I might have to check this out...

Maybe subtract Five Finger Death Punch and some of the other stuff with Abnormality image
  • This game is awesome. I'm a little over halfway in on my second playthrough of it. It's not very long (Probably took me between 7 and 9 hours on my first go, much less so far on my second time through), but that's a good thing IMO. It doesn't drag on like other games do and unlike most modern games, I actually wanted to play it again when I was done. For those hellbent on needing some other kind of replay value outside of the story mode though, the unlockable classics will kill a lot of your time, and there are multiple survival arena scenarios to complete where you have to fight non-stop swarms of enemies for a grade (and the chance to unlock other things).

All in all, the action is nearly non-stop and it's just a lot of fun. The blood and violence is seriously over-the-top and that's one of the things that makes it. Ripping arms off, popping heads, and tearing spines out of rectums has never been more entertaining (and despite doing so a few hundred times, it has still yet to get old).

Regarding the metal soundtrack, it is very fitting. That's not the only kind of music that's in there though. In between fights the soundtrack consists of ambience and sounds or other creepy, Splatterhouse-esque tunes, and when you switch over to the side-scrolling 2.5d segments, the soundtrack is a throwback to the classic games. It really is a great mixture that fits the game perfectly.
  • 999 looks like it'll be a great game. I have a copy coming from Amazon right now actually. After stumbling across AKSYS's Theresia, playing it, and this one being similar... I can only imagine this one will be just as good.
These games of been called the heir to the Kemco-Seika throne of adventure rpgs. So if you used to play Shadowgate, Deja Vu, Uninvited? You'll like these a lot.
One final benefit, these are geared towards adults... So, if you were a K-S fan and aquire one of these AKSYS games.. Wait until it's late enough to have little traffic and people outside, turn the lights off, grab some drinks and plop down in a comfy chair. It makes it extra creepy. Might sound ridiculous, but it really ups the experience. I'm a big fan of the quality in these thus far. I hope this helps you out my good man, Cheers!
