At the flea market on Sunday: There was a tub of games for $140, looked to be filed with SNES/NES/PS2 and more. Some old guy was looking through it, tried to haggle the guy down and he said no. Eventually he stood over the box and brought it over to the seller and bought it for $140. He takes the tub about 4-5 booths diagonally to the left.... and starts selling items from the tub he just bought.
I really, really hate flea market resellers. Just take them to eBay, please.
Also that was the only instance of SNES/NES games for me on that day out of 2 flea markets. Got up at 6 AM on a Sunday for nothing!
^^ I totally agree! There's a guy near me that does that all the time too. He'll also buy stuff from Craigslist and resell them back on there, same area page and all. He's done it on Facebook groups too. I don't mind resellers at all, but there's just something that bothers me about doing it that way. Seems kinda scummy lol. Like you said, just take em to ebay or Amazon or something.
Went to a flea market this past weekend. Saw a reseller and decided to check out what he had. He actually had a bunch of stuff, and at pretty reasonable prices. Not great, but fair. I decided to ask if he had any Legend of Zelda gold carts cuz I didn't see any on the shelves. He said he might have one in the back, so went away and came back about a minute later with gold cart in hand. It was a really nice copy, and he was pretty proud of it. He then says to me, "You know what this was sitting next to back there?" Obviously I didn't, so I said no, and he went back and came back out with two carts. The first was Bubble Bobble 2, and underneath that was Bonk's Adventure. I asked how much, and he said those weren't for sale. Not really a loser's weepers, but I do wish those were mine. I believe that's the first time I'd seen either of those in person.
My girlfriend lost her copy of Bravely Default at the food court in Melbourne.
Almost as bad as when she lost her DS case with Zelda 3D, FFIII, 999, Pokemon White, Rune Factory 2 and the case itself a couple floors down.
There was weeping.
UPDATE::
It was in her room the whole damn time!, although for a Spirit Tracks in the mail and it looked like it had been sitting in Bong water for a few hours before it was posted. cleaned it enough to work
An online store I talked about before that often doesn't know how to price old games accurately just put up a bunch of NES games again and about five of them were around 99 cents. No super amazing games but they were Anticipation, Solar Jetman, Donkey Kong Jr., Rush 'n' Attack, Double Dragon 2 and one or two others. So I put them all in my cart and as I wanted to check out half of them are gone because somebody was faster. I'm kicking myself for not checking a minute earlier . Oh well at least I got a couple good deals and maybe some of the nine NES games will be boxed. The chances are around 20% so we'll see in a few days when they'll arrive
Also I know I didn't miss anything incredibly valuable.
Worst feeling is going out yard sailing, finding nothing, and knowing stuff was there moments ago. Last Saturday I stopped at the first yard sale on my list and find half a dozen boxes filled with late-80s, 90s action figures including old Nintendo action figures. I ask the lady running the sale about any games, she replied someone already picked up the boxes (BOXES!) of video games. As I was leaving for the next stop on my route, I spot a sign to a sale not on my list. I decide to swing back to that sale after hitting the other sales on my list first. When I get to that sale, I see a young woman loading a boxed 1st gen Wii and boxed accessories into her car. Ugh.
thought i'd throw my hat into the ring and post something on here.
went to a garage sale I found on craigslist. they didn't post a time of opening so I figured it'd be 7 in the morning. swing by, not open, so head on out to other sales and double back to this one an hour later. as soon as I walk up, like immediately when I get there, there's a guy buying two games...and I sadly bothered to glance at what he bought...and how much he actually paid for them. I couldn't make out one, but the one I did see? Dragon Warrior VII...$2. the other game was also 2 bucks...
another sale, this one a craigslist post. guy's getting rid of gba games, figure'd must be cleaning out kids' stuff. notice some good stuff, Kirby, pokemon, megaman battle network, licensed stuff. then notice the prices - 5 bucks...each! immediately email the guy and ask about the pokemon leaf green (or emerald, pic was blurry)and the Zelda ALTTP games. this was at 8 at night, roughly an hour after he'd posted his wares. I don't hear back from him till about 8 in the morning...sorry, already sold.
so, yeah, that sucks. then again, I am fairly new to serious game hunting instead of just casual chasing, so I just got to keep looking up.
Walking in to Salv Army. Guy was walking towards front with a Donkey Kong Jenga game. Woulda been a few minutes sooner wouldve nabbed it..shouldnt have stopped at the Gwill first probably.
Found a copy of Link to the Past for 5 bucks on a local classified site. I immediately phoned the guy, and he told me someone was already buying it... And this came in the middle of a dry spell, which still continues to this day. It's been so long since I found something decent. At least my wallet is slowly starting to recover
So this one's all on me and my stupid sense of financial responsibility and respect for business owners. So this weekend I go to my local game store to trade in a bunch of systems I picked up from a huge lot on Craigslist. Keep in mind, I just spent $175 on this lot. A guy walks in a few minutes after me with a boxed Coleco Vision. I don't yet have that system. The box isn't in the best shape, but it's alright. Anyway, as I'm working through my trade in with the girl, he starts to work on his with the other guy working. They offered him $26 store credit r $13 cash, which understandably was too low for him. So about this time, we are coming to the last of my systems that the girl needs to test, and as the guy walks by me he gives me a look like "hey, I'll make you a deal on this Coleco Vision." So I chat with him for a few seconds about his price, $40. Considering I just spent $175 on my lot, I didn't feel like spending that much, and I just felt bad about poaching a sale from the store. Anyway, he piqued my interest and we talked a bit more, but the girl heard us and asked us not to do that in the store, understandably. So we took it outside, the whole time I'm just feeling worse about spending more and poaching the sale. His bottom price was $30, which I didn;t have on me at the time. He said I could go to an ATM real quick and he'd wait for me. Had I had the cash on me, I probably woulda taken the deal. But I was too preoccupied with my deal with the store and the nagging feeling at spending even more money to try to find a nearby ATM. So I ultimately passed on the deal, and now I'm kicking myself.

I wouldnt feel its poaching. Its America in 2014, they couldve re-negotiated the deal and said more. You know they are going to triple the price or ebay that system. What are they going to do? Call the cops on you? IDA said if you are offended offer the guy more and stop trying to scalp him.

It wasn't about being afraid they would call the cops or anything, or what they would think of me or anything like that. It's the simple fact that I go to this place a lot. I know the people that work there. I attend their events. I never woud have met the guy with the Coleco Vision had we both not been going to that store with the sole purpose of trading in games. So I just would never had felt right taking advantage of that situation. I have too much respect for them. And in the employee's defense, this store is becoming somewhat of a chain, so they kind of have the prices set. Unless you are talking to a manager or something, there really is no negotiating or haggling. Believe me, I've tried, on many occasions.
If anything, the more I think about it, that guys was a bit of a deuche. I saw the garage sale sticker on the system, it said $40. So realistically he probably paid $20 or so for it. From the little bit he told me and what I heard him telling the employee he picked it up at a garage sale that morning. So he purchased it with the sole intent to turn it into cash. Obviously having no idea how much he would get from a store like this, because their offer was not at all surprising to me. And then, he turns around and tries to make a deal with one of their customers right in front of them, still in their store? Deuche move.
I don't see it as poaching either. From your story, the breakdown was this:
1. Guy comes in with Coleco
2. Store offers a trade-in amount.
3. Guy refuses offer.
4. Guy pitches Coleco to you.
Now if you jumped in at step 2 or 3 with a "Hey, I'll make you a better deal", yeah that's a no-no. But by step 4, the transaction was over. The store gave the amount they were willing to pay and he refused. IMO the conscience is clear at that point. I'd concede that the guy offering you the Coleco immediately afterwards inside the store is uncouth, however that's on him not you.

As time passes, I feel less and less bad about passing on it. Every location that I have been to, these people are just so helpful and friendly. Just the other day one of them helped me get my 5200 up and running, and actually frankensteined parts from their non-working system to get mine into a better cosmetic condition, and got me all the wires I needed for way less than I would have had to pay on eBay or some other outlet. This is not the first time I've gotten this level of customer service at one of these stores, and I would have just felt terrible if I took the guy up on his offer like that.
I saw someone had listed a Wii bundle, one of the games was Metroid Prime Trilogy. I emailed and asked if he would sell it separate, turns out I know the guy. He says he'll sell me it for $30 by itself. Sweet, then he replies he can't find the disc for it and to check back with him on the weekend. I saw him the other day at work and he said he still can't find it.
So basically I got a $30 Metroid Prime Trilogy in limbo until he finds the disc for it.

DJ5's tone isnt that of really wanting the coleco it sounds like, and or he flipped flopped his feelings on it.
I dont agree with him though being afraid like he owes the store something and wouldve been denied service if he had bought that coleco. Who says that place has 100% dibs on it if the guy comes in doesnt like the price then offers it to someone else.
Hate to use a wild comparison but almost reminds me of people defending gamestop tooth and nail.

I would defintely want a Coleco. Especially at that price. I have several games for it already, just need the system. In addition to the fact that I was already spending a lot, it was about respect. If I was at a different store, that wouldn't have been much of a factor. But this place is different. We have several vintage game stores here in Austin, and none of them feel the same as Game Over. I don't feel like I would've been denied service or anything (though I wouldn't have blamed them if they did), like I said, it was simply the amount of respect I have for them. And it's not a blind loyalty or anything. They have earned my respect and loyalty based on their business practices, their mutual respect for me as a customer, their products, and their employees. If any of those things change for the worse, trust me, that loyalty and respect will drop quickly.
went to a flea market the other day that was scheduled to close at 5pm. I was there at 4pm and saw a guy with a box of NES games that was packing up and I asked if I could take a look before he left. his response... "nah, sorry man, trying to pack up".
ok, i know this story sucks, but come on, why couldn't he just let me look . I mean, if the name of the game is to sell, sell, sell for these flea market sellers, why wouldn't you just let the shoppers shop?! It wasn't even like it was after hours or anything! grr.

That sucks. Depending what kind of seller he was, I woulda just offered him cash for the box. Sometimes they just want to get rid of it rather than pack it up. It's a gamble, but you can always trade it in at a store if there is nothing good.

I though about it, but the reality was that it was a small box with probably 12 games and the top one was TMNT 1, so who knows, they all could have been beat up commons. The frustrating part is I will never know.

There is a game store "near" me (Jamestown, NY) that doesn't price ANYTHING, and basically checks Buy it Now prices on eBay when you go to the register. I RARELY go there, anymore.

I've been to a few game stores/pawn shops where I hear how much the people are going to give them and I just want to run over and tell them I'll give them more then the shops and It'll go into my personal collection..better then selling to a store right?
I've never actually done it because I figure the people in the store would get pissed off at me if I did that. Maybe if I got the seller outside of the store and offered to buy their stuff...
Like this one family...obviously they had run into some hard times and were pawning their most expensive items, phones, tablets, a guitar and a boxed psp. Now I had no idea what model the psp was but it was boxed so it got me interested. I'd been wanting to upgrade/replace mine. Of course they took whatever deal the pawn shop gave them so meh..
Or this lady who walked into Al's Music and Games, she had a system and a bunch of games but the guy turned her away saying they had to many systems. I never got a chance to see the system she had...so who knows what it was. Most likely not rare since if it was even if they had a ton of systems they would have taken it. That same day two guys brought in maybe three laundry baskets of games and a garbage bag of dvds...Al's gave them pennys on the dollar...worse then Gamestop ffs.
Not gaming related. Some lady cleaning out her sons closet full of old G1 Transformers put it all up on eBay and someone backdoored the auction. I am so friggin' depressed... (
Got a redemption ability. Saw this nice Sony WEGA widescreen set(not lcd) that was caked out all hookups and even HDMI. I think it was like 30-32, gonna test it at the store..I think its worth it, would be perfect for my retro systems.
Today a friend of my girlfriend said she had a NES for sale at her yard sale. I asked how much She said $5. Told her im on my way. I get there and ask if she has any games. She said no a guy bought them all an hour ago. I asked how many and she said a tub full maybe 50. I put my head down and said. Thanks anyway. I always miss out on the huge lot for cheap. If the nes was $5 im sure the games were dirt cheap insert sad face here. I got a nes for $5 though

I thought that would end a dry spell that lasted for months
