  • Mega Man II of course. The only thing I wish it had was sliding and a charged shot. The music, bosses, stages, and weapons I liked best in this and MM3 after that.
  • sorry... guess I didn't search hard enough

  • What one did you vote for CrashMan?

Isn't charged shot one of the main complaints regarding the later games? It makes the boss weapons relatively underpowered.
  • Well of course 3!

I can't say no to 2.. I think the user name says it all
  • One of the praises that author has for Mega Man 3 is the length. The fact that it is noticeably longer than Mega Man 2 is given as a plus. That is a strong negative for me. The first Mega Man game is just about the perfect length for playing through in one session. Mega Man 2 takes the game length to just long enough to feel satisfying but not wear out its welcome. If Mega Man 3 is significantly longer than that (I haven't played it since its original release), then it is too long.
  • Agreed. I think the length is just right in 2. If a game like Mega Man where, on occasion I've been known to throw controllers, is too long I get frustrated/bored and quit.

I also agree with the charge shot being a negative. Despite getting frustrated at times I love the challenge. I think the charge shot can take away from that. I think running through a level with the charge shot constantly being used takes away from that. I think that the challenge it brings gives that much more satisfaction when you actually beat the level, especially if you beat one of the harder bosses with only your main weapon.
  • Megaman 2 is the best Megaman game ever made. I really enjoyed 3 but at the same time, alot of the weapons you got were total junk and the bosses were kinda tired. After that, the quality seemed to dip until part 6 for me. All of them are amazing though.

In some cases yes, but I didn't feel that was the case in MM6, perhaps the earlier titles weren't balanced right but I can't remember.  Mostly though and why it was first, I appreciate the slide.
  • If anyone reads Jeremy Parish articles (gamespite, 1up), I believe it was him that talked about how Mega Man 4 was the start of the broken charge shot.
  • I will say 2 is my favorite but I really love them all.
  • I played 3 first, and I always will love three...
  • I can't really say for sure, they all blur together to me. I have no nostalgia attached to them, and only beat all 6 after I joined this site as a collector. But from what I do remember, I thought the slide added in Mega Man 3 was a huge plus. But by the time you got to Mega Man 6, all of the version of rush (and the red Mega Man) seemed gimmicky and not real value added.

I'll give the nod to Mega Man 2 just because of the music / bosses (liked the Dragon in Dr. Wily alot) and weapons. But I definitely see why some people prefer the 3rd.
  • Mega Man 2 is my personal favorite. It was the first game I ever rented and I've loved it ever since. The soundtrack is by far the best I'm my opinion too.
  • MM2 FTW: Pre-gimmicky BS; post slidy-play control & upped it to 8 bosses from only 6 in part 1.
  • I don't see how length could be an issue with a password system, think of it as bang for your buck. Beating a game in one sitting would be in issue if you had to leave it on to beat it.
  • Imo MM3 is the best.
  • Also 3 for best. Final boss for MM2 was dumb.
  • MM2.

The slide was a neat addition in MM3, but the bosses in 2 will always be the best...it's just a shame the leaf shield doesn't work correctly
  • MM 2 is the best.
  • Ahh yeah it was MM4 they added it. 4 I didn't care for much and 5 I downright was no fan of. 6 I never gave much of a chance to up until maybe 6 months ago but while the bosses were nice it just felt saddled down. I didn't think the charged shot on that one was overkill like in the prior titles. My problem with the later releases was just adding so much unnecessary garbage, extra useless paths, and way too many gimmicky robot pets of little to no value.
  • Looks like Mega Man 2 is still the Top Dog! If Mega Man Universe wasn't cancelled I'd probably be voting for that one =(
  • I was playing Mega Man 4 yesterday and had a blast. I never use the charge shot anyway unless I'm forced to, so the game is still fairly challenging.
  • Shampoo is better. I go on first and clean the hair. Conditioner is better.I make the hair silky and smooth. You guys crack me up.
  • mm2 all day
  • I think MM2 is the best.
  • Mega Man III is probably my favorite. Going back to damaged versions of previously-visited stages and then fighting beefed-up Mega Man 2 bosses again was awesome. Unlike part II, they were brutal in this one. Also, it still has an excellent soundtrack and the level design is good, too. With the slide involved, I may actually be able to beat it in the same amount of time as Mega Man 2 (I will have to try that sometime..).
  • MM2 is probably the best, basically because it kept the formula established in 1, polished every single aspect, balanced the difficulty and length, offered amazing music, and gave everyone robot bosses that were fun and whose themes made sense. It broke the mold for side-scrolling platformers until Mario 3 came along.

I've always been a big fan of MM5, personally. 3 felt too dark for a Mega Man game, and the robot masters in 4 were far too contrived. 5 returned to many of the things that made 2 so good. It was bright, the music took a step forward again, I liked most of the robots (I'd been waiting for Gravity Man since 2), and it wasn't too long or hard. I also enjoyed the addition of Beat. I wound up going back to 5 as often as 2.
  • Mega Man 3 is the masterwork of the series. I agree that Mega Man 2 is very iconic, but it's way too easy and sketchy to be a better game than the 3. Play both on the same session and you'll understand.
