Best Mega Man on the NES?

  • I've got to go with Mega Man 2.

I've always loved the slide in 3, but I think that's the only thing that it has over 2.

I've always felt that the difficulty argument is a weak one. In the grand scheme of things the hardest of the classic Mega Man games is maybe medium difficulty. In the article he says that Mega Man fans like difficulty, but in my opinion that's just not true.

For me, the biggest factor is fun and Mega Man 2 has it in spades. One of the best soundtracks ever doesn't hurt either.

The slide was a neat addition in MM3, but the bosses in 2 will always be the best...it's just a shame the leaf shield doesn't work correctly

Can you elaborate on this? I found it to be useful in really only 1 level in Wily's stage, but I always thought they just didn't have any good idea's for it.

As for my vote - MM2. I have personal reasons attached to it, but from a gamer standpoint, the bosses, music, weapons, over all feel and gamplay, this game to me is the best MM out there.
  • How about Mega Man X3!?
    Yea yea on the nes...

I voted 2...only megaman game I owned as a kid, still holds up today. Not to say 3 is bad! I actually like every mega man I've played. I even like mega man 7!

You're supposed to be able to move around with the shield intact, and also it's supposed to actually block the stuff from Air Man

Oh really fool! Really! *wacks shampoo and conditioner together*

    Love that damn movie!

  • To me Mega Man 2 is the best one of the bunch. The graphics, music, play control...all of it was top notch at the time and the game still holds up fantastically today. Although I love all the Mega Man nes games,(hell, most any Mega Man game) MM 2 is the best.

For what it's worth,my order of best to worst. 2,1,6,4,5,3.

My apologies, but I fail to see what you're driving at. Is your point supposed to be that a reasonable discussion on a dedicated gaming site about the preferred game in a series is non-sensical and worthless?

I realize it's a Billy Madison quote, but I don't understand why you're saying it.
  • I really enjoyed the first two, the third was still great, fourth on were still good. #2 is I had to pick between the 1st two.

I just find the back and forth of some members quite funny and I thought I would give my humorous take on the situation. Some people have their vote for the better game set in stone while others don't. I just find it amusing that some people will stop at nothing to prove their pick is the best. In the end, they both accomplish the same thing, get your hair nice and clean and satisfy your need to play a decent Mega Man game, no matter what product you use or game you play, your needs will be fulfilled in the end.

  • Mega Man 2 is my favorite, but I like them all.
  • Megaman 2 and 3 are overrated. Megaman 5 is my favorite. Dat Blues' Castle theme.
  • Mega Man 2 is the gold standard by which all other Mega Man games should be measured.

I think those are fighting words 'round these parts
  • I like them all.

That being said, I still enjoy the first one the most.

    Cut Man FTW:
  • I only actually owned 2 & 3 when I was a kid, and while I voted for 2, I love them both. The whole damn series should be considered one game :-P They all feel about the same & follow the same formula (which obviously wasn't a bad thing in this case)
  • The first two are my favorites. Both have great music and nice robot masters.

I like the first one slightly more than MM 2.
  • I'm a big fan of 5 for some reason. Even though I've never beaten it.
  • megaman 2 all the way. i mean comeon.
  • Its probably because I've played it way too much but 2 is too easy so I get bored while playing it. 3 will always be my favorite!
  • Mega Man 2 was the greatest! I remember going to the video store to rent it every week (if someone else didn't rent it first). With all the times I paid renting it, I could have just bought the damn thing! Same for Mega Man X2, Final Fantasy III, and Super Metroid
  • Mega Man 4 is my personal favourite. The third one being a close second, followed by 6.
