Which game(s) do you have the most fond memories over?

Not necessarily nostalgia, per se (though that certainly holds merit, if
you wish). Which games do you have the most fond memories of?

For me, I'd say Final Fantasy VI, and probably Super Mario 64.

  • Final Fantasy VI myself actually. One of the few games I would watch my Dad play alot when I was younger, and never get bored.
  • I remember getting my first NES when I was like 5 or so. (I'm 17 now) Was excited that first day to play Mario and Duck Hunt. I was excited because my dad got it out of the trash at his work with about 20 games and was working on it for a couple days up to my birthday. Little did I know, it was a fake and he had the connector in and when I got it on my birthday after wanting to play it so badly, I was so happy. Haha, I remember going down stairs and just seeing it hooked up and trying all the games it came with, but for some reason I only remember duck hunt and the gun, but I know I played them all.

Glover, too. I remember jumping up and down when I got it for Christmas and it was hooked up, freaking out to play it. I was still quite young. The time from my NES->N64 wasn't that long, maybe a year.

Also, some of DK64 memories. I remember borrowing it and going through a debacle of not having the Memory Expansion, haha. But we bought it shortly after.

Lastly is Castlevania 64. Since I was too scared to play it (and still am, truthfully) I would watch my sister play it. I was scared at first because of the part where you get into the small room with the coffins you break and get items, you can hear the skeletons coming out of the ground, but the camera gets so close, you can't see anything. Then BAM! A skeleton appears out of nowhere. It's not much, but when I was like 7, that shit was scary and caused me to be afraid to play it. Won't play it even today.

I'm only 17 and I feel so old.
  • Wizards & Warriors, Zelda 2. My brother and I used to play Guerrilla War together - it was awesome. Later in life, it was San Fransisco Rush and F-Zero X. Those were the days!
  • Super Mario 64, and Mega man IV. Also...Championship Bowling for the NES.
  • Halo 2 system links before the whole online gaming explosion system links were the fucking shit
  • Jungle Hunt, Little Nemo, Black Bass, Lolo, Zelda, Star Trek 25th, Doom, Duke Nukem 3d, Sim City, Bond...
  • SMB1, SMB3, SMworld, Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, Gyromite, Final Fantasy 2(4j), Mega Man 2, Street Fighter 2 are some to come to mind.

SMB1, DH, HA, and Gyromite I got the 1985 launch unit and I played the hell out of those for a good long while before I could get more stuff in 1986 like Kung Fu and Balloon Fight. Hours well probably weeks of hours went into them every day around life getting good and learning every bit of them.  SMB3 just because it was THE game of the series, the lame movie, and just all the stuff around it has a ton of memories. Super Mario World I played 2 weeks straight to perfection as I blew every penny I had to get the SNES day 1. Mom got it for me for Christmas, I couldn't wait and learned I just had enough in my safe so I busted it open, threw the cash at her when she got home, and I got lost.

Final Fantasy 2 I list because it was the RPG to truly draw me into the field, and I played it out damn near a dozen times to completion over the years and I still think it has the most moving and engaging story in the series.

Street Fighter 2 introduced me to fighting games, but also I got it as a trainer for the arcade as I was gaming during afternoons at summer camp. I got to where I could school anyone there and whip it on a quarter with whoever on the roster.

I probably should honorably mention Super Mario 64 for the ground it broke for all of us and me, and how it showed a 3D world game can work and not suck being a fight with bad angles and worse cameras.
  • Fond? I dont think i ever had fond memories has a kid for videos games.... Just horror...
  • Castlevania Circle of the Moon for GBA.

I was on a road trip many years ago, before the GBA SP came out. All I had was a regular old white GBA, no backlight. Like any other castlevania this one was dark (as in hard to see). I loved it but had a hard time playing it. I remember being on a road trip and setting up camp just outside of lethbridge. Morning rolled around and I was up just before sunrise, so I took the opportunity to turn my chair so my back was facing the sunrise and just as the sun started coming up it was perfect. I could see everything in the game, the birds were singing and all I remember is kicking up my feet and playing until the rest of the family got up.

It was just so relaxing, I don't know why. Kinda lame eh?

Coincidentally I am actually playing it right now too!  Never did beat it.
  • Faxanadu, Little Nemo, Golgo 13, Festers Quest, Kid Icarus, Sky Kid...could go on.

All games that I remember putting in countless hours as a kid and never beating them.
  • For the NES era I would say SMB3. I remember packing that game every time I would go to a friend's house for the weekend, also MTPO for the same reason. The SNES era would be SMW, Cool Spot, Earthworm Jim and Mario Kart also for the same reason. Sometimes I wish I were 10, 12 or 14 again, those were awesome times.
  • This may seem weird but the first game I ever played was Who Framed Roger Rabbit. My local video store only had about 3 or 4 games and that movie was the "it" thing back then. I rented that game probably 30 times.

  • can't believe i'm the first one to say contra, LOL and double dragon 2. and the gaidens.
  • Batman, Rockateer, Excite Bike, Double Dragon, and Friday the 13th. I used to play all of those constantly when I was a kid.
  • damn. loosing my mind, forgot excite bike i still play that almost daily, ha ha , something about the music on the titles screen, and if you reset you can get 3 different songs, but i assume you all know that already, the 3rd song you gotta reset a few times to get though
  • Dude, I used to make my own courses for hours on end. It was almost like having virtual legos.
  • Interesting thread. The games I have the most memories of are not necessarily my favorites. Funny how that works out.

Final Fantasy (NES) - I remember using a guide and playing along side my dad through some of the dungeons. And that damn Temple of Fiends Revisited is a huge pain if you aren't leveled high enough.

Goldeneye / Mario Kart 64 - God knows how many hours spent in multiplayer, or even throughly beating the single player. Amazing games.

Super Mario 64 - Got it for Christmas with the N64 launch and man what a great experience that was.

Halo 2 - The go-to game that we played during our college days. We had system link battles (4 vs. 4), internet play, or even classic "loser passes off the controller" games.
  • The Crash Bandicoot series on Playstation. The first game I got brand new was Crash Bandicoot, and I stuck with the series even with some of the PS2 games. The first four on Playstation will always be the best though.

Basically the four Naughty Dog games stand alone in my mind.
  • 3d worldrunner, mario 3, excitebike, and rainbow six for the 64
  • Lots! I have great memories of Castlevania II, Dragon Warrior, Mega Man 2, and The Adventure of Link, all of which my uncle and I used to play when I was a kid. As a teenager, I fell in love with Final Fantasy VI and the Breath of Fire games, and of course, Ocarina of Time...a game I was so deeply absorbed in that I literally had to tell my relatives "goodbye" before disappearing into my room to play!

Some of the best memories of my life were made while playing Nintendo, and that's one of the main reasons I've remained loyal to them all these years.
  • I would have to say castlevania, adventure island, link to the past, & star wars k.o.t.o.r
  • I think I was too young at the time to remember when we first got a NES but some of my best memories are playing the shit out of SMB3. We only had that, some Wrestlemania game and Barbie for my sister, so it was really the only game I played except for Gameboy stuff. Other games that stand out for me are SM64, Pokemon Stadium and the Crash Bandicoot series. Also stuff like the Olympics and WWE games for PS2 with a 4-way multitap were fun as hell.
  • SMB 1,2 and 3, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Legend of Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Link to the Past. I've put HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of hours into those.
  • SMB 1, 2, and 3, Castlevania 1, 2, and 3, Megaman 2, Crystalis, Zelda 2, Rastan, The Ninja, SMW, DKC, Illusion of Gaia, and Star Fox.
  • Twisted Metal 2 (PS1), Legend Of Dragoon (PS1), World Class Meet (NES), Mortal Kombat (Genesis)

TM2 was the main reason I bought a pS1 in the first place and Legend of Dragoon was my first RPG I ever played and love every minute of the game.

World Class Meet was only time I got my mom to play games with me.

Mortal Kombat is my favorite game growing up.

  • Five pieces of my NES Nintendo gaming history that I am fond of...

    1) My first three games were SM/DH combo, RC Pro-AM and Top Gun

    2) Trying to land that friggin plane on Top Gun

    3) Opening Dragon Warrior (pure epic), I still have my "quick card" around here with the spells and levels on it.

    4) I still don't know what the R power-up does in Contra.

    5) Using the Game Genie because its the only way half my games would work (you guys know what I'm talking about).

  • I have so many games that I have fond memories of. The few that Iam most fond of are:

1)The early games in the King's Quest, Space Quest and Police Quest series. I remember trying to figure these games out with my father. However we always had to revert to the strategy guide to get us through the games.

    2) My Brother and I got 4 games for Christmas one year. Legend of Zelda, Kid Icarus, Megaman 2, and Faxanadu. The many hours, weeks and months we played these.

    3) Final Fantasy VI, my favorite game of all time. I rented this one day and played it about 8 hours straight. Right to the part where you defeat Ultros on the Lete River. Then you party splits off into different scenarios. I stopped playing right there because I knew I was going to buy this game, I thought playing any further would ruin the experince for when I owned it. I purchased it a few days later. I even faked being sick, so I could stay home from school to play.

  • Some games I have some memories over would be the Tomb Raider PS1, Tony Hawk Pro Skater PS1, PS1 Crash games, Blasto PS1, Croc PS1, McDonald's Treasure Adventure Genesis, and Rugrats search for Reptar PS1.
  • I have so many. I will keep this to extra special ones.

Atari 2600. Playing Circus Atari with my mom. We always loved the way the peoples legs went in the air when they didn't hit the pad.

Arcade. Pole position. Watching my dad in a seated cab version always get one of the top scores to the other kids amazement.

vs baseball. playing with my dad on endless occasions. the only game I can think of where I dont remember who was better. we just had lots of fun.

NES MTPO. Beating Iron Mike for the first time after helping my dad mail the Christmas cards for his office. I drank a few beers while doing it and beat Mike the first time as soon as I got home. I guess a bit of alcohol for a 13 year old is not all bad

  • SMB and GTA Vice City, probably the two games i've played most with friends
