Do you ever play a game differently?

I was curious if you guys ever played games in creative ways to have an excuse to keep playing them.

For example, I sometimes play Game Boy games with the Game Boy upside down, or a console game with the controller upside down, just to make it more of a challenge. With games like Mario and Sonic, where I've become accustomed to breezing through, it really makes for a unique gameplay experience.

  • Nope. I'm 1 and done for the most part. Just don't have the time to do multiple playthrus of the same game with a wall full of backlog games.

I don't even replay RPGs with different classes / party arrangements.
  • I'm so terrible at a lot of games that people think I'm playing with the controller upside down, but I've never actually tried it.
  • No, I'm in the same situation as Jone. I have too many games to play the same one multiple times. If I only had like 5 games it would be different, but when you have over 1000 and no time to play them, it's hard enough playing them one time.
  • I have tons of games on the waiting list, so I end up not playing each one multiple times...

I wish I had the time though.
  • Very rarely do I replay a game. I do replay Friday the 13th quite a bit since you can change up how you play pretty easy. There's alot of games that I try to end up speeding through like Ninja Gaiden and it's fun to see how you can shorten your time. Die Hard is another game where it doesn't follow a set path so you can kinda play it without it being too monotonous. Nightshade is a fun game to replay just to tool around the city.
  • I've done something like that before, but not lately, so many games....so little time
  • Castlevania III comes to mind. It's one of the few game I would play with various characters in order to increase replay value.
  • Deus Ex has all kinds of ways one can play differently. Not killing or attacking anyone comes to mind.

    Using only specific weapons, etc.
  • Games with High Scores I definitely replay alot. If they don't have a high score, you can see how quick you can beat it.

Or try no-deathing a game also.
  • Yes. Swordless Zelda, and minimalist Zelda are great challenges.
  • I play Megamans 4 and later sometimes without charging my mega buster, also i play some megamans with using only non mega buster weapons (Rush coil counts) the whole game sometimes. I have to go home and beat tomahawk man on tuesday to ensure my Canucks beat the blackhawks.
  • controller behind my back or with my feet...most rpgs get a few playthrus...i spent 2 years grinding on disk one of ffVII
  • I will often choose all the hardest settings and maybe give myself some extra handicaps on the first playthrough to make the game last longer. With new vegas I decided to choose all the hardest settings, turn off all the autosaves and only save when I'm done my play session and only use melee weapons.
  • I like to do personal speedruns. I'm not as good as the people who do the speedruns on YouTube, nor do I exploit glitches. But I like to see how quickly I can get through Castlevania, or if I can beat Guardian Legend without continuing. (Answer: no, I can't.) They're just for personal fun, though. I'm not trying to show up anyone else.
  • Yeah, on games that I'm quite good at, I'll sometimes play stupidly on purpose and I get the nostalgia from the first time I played it. I just approach the game as if I had never played it before
  • I did this with a few games. I played to try beat Mega Man 1 and 2 with one man. Then it was beating all the robot masters from MM 1-6 with nothing but the arm cannon.

I mostly did this kind of stuff on Tecmo Super Bowl in various ways.(Only rushing, only passing, play with a really bad team against a great team, etc.)My favorite one was to deliberately spot the computer as many points as possible at the start of the game and see if I could make a comeback.Definitely makes the gameplay different when you start off in a 35-0 hole.
