Yeah, possibly I am misunderstanding you. You're saying they're tracking peoples data into the server, niot the database I think. But as I have been reading, there was a security breach of the database of the PSN, and all the information [or lots of it] had been stolen.
And I'm sure it's encrypted. But what's encryption when they know how to unencrypt it.
I think we're still talking past each other... I'm talking about the technique of duping somebody on the inside. It happens way more than companies would like to admit.
As for encryption...GOOD encryption, done right, cannot be "unencrypted" within the lifespan of Earth (in theory). The problem is, it's not usually "done right"
From what I heard (read on techdirt I think), the fact that this info was stored in plain text is one of the big items in their negligence lawsuit.
Well, that would clearly be a no-no.
Your bank's website, for instance, stores your log-in in a fully encrypted way where nobody is capable of recovering it (in theory). They have an external token to reset the log-in, so that can be exploited, but the log-in itself is "secure".
When you use credit cards with your cable bill, cellphone, etc, they're supposed to do the same sort of thing, where some encryption key is associated with your credentials and locks everything else down.
Yeah, I couldn't find a source I would call reliable, but this place:
Check out this link, the PSN users are getting free stuff... oh yeeaahhh. One thing everyone is getting for free is 30 days to PS Plus. More than are in the link below, plus information about the security update.
Seems like a bit more depending on the territory various games will be listed as a freebie on top of the 30day freebie of PS+. I may just have to see what I can grab for 1/2 off under that program because I'm not signing up for it and they'll remove stuff that's free under it when your sub runs out.
Yeah...looks like we will have online play back up by the end of next week. That is all I use it for...and not even that much...was thinking about getting the new Socom 4 though...
At this press conferece, Sony confirmed that the passwords was hashed (meaning that they werent stored in plaintext). As for the other personal info being stored in plaintext, isnt this common?

^ Haha. Now we just need a DERP picture and Sonys actions will be summed up in two pictures.
I think that needs to be converted to a classic black-border demotivational poster with the tagline "Irony"
What is irony in this case?

Good to see Sony is doing a good bit to make up for this. And what can you do with PS+? I've only ever heard of downloading demos with it.
PS+ is mostly about getting free content and discounts on different things. You also have 150MB of cloud storage for your savegames. You also get access to scheduled downloads, so that you can set the PS3 to search for updates for games at a specific time frame. PS+ also offers time exclusive demos and betas sometimes.

Some demos are exclusive to PS+ members, you can also get discounts on games.
Perfect timing I must say, my SOCOM 4 should be here this week.
Let me know how it goes? I have thought about picking it up, but Meticritic's reviews were not so hot. I used to be a huge fan of the Socom series. 2 being my fav, but up to CA and played for years!
I don't really care how long it's down, I just want to be able to play my Netflix again. It stopped working for me 4 days ago, and now it won't let me watch without being signed into PSN.

I know it's been getting a lot of hate, just because Zipper took it a different way. Now it's just a typical run and gun for the most part (this reminds me of the Contra Force case, they slapped the SOCOM name on there just to sell more possibly?). We'll see, I'll let you know.

Early access to betas, demos, discounted games, free games, free themes, and some more I think.

Step 1: Click Netflix
Step 2: Whatever with PSN screen
Step 3: It fails
Step 4: Whatever again
Step 5: It fails a second time, HIT CIRCLE
Step 6: USE NETFLIX
Covered this in two earlier posts of mine. I've been using it just fine.
